We had the good fortune of connecting with Peter Aumaitre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peter, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
All my life I have been incline for the Arts. I considered myself to be an Artist with passion for what I do. Here is a little bit of my story:

My journey started in Madison Avenue New York City, in the early 70’s where I got a mayor in Advertising from the New York Institute of Advertising.
While studying Advertising I discover that Photography was my real passion, then I bought my first camera (A Nikon FTN). So, while studying my mayor in Advertising I started doing Street Photography in the streets of the city which by the way (NYC is a huge outdoor studio), there in the streets of NYC you have endless possibilities of express your creativity. I never thought that in the long run it would be the solid basis and foundations for my Art and Creativity career as a Photographer.
After I got my degree in Advertising, I went back to my country (Venezuela) so I was involved in the Media department of the Mccan Ericson Advertising Agency. There I started doing Commercials for TV and I was in charge of the Photography sections of the campaigns created by the Agency.
After 2 years working in the agency, I quit and decided to come back to the United States, and I made a 180* in my life when I decided to study Architecture in the University of Miami.
By that time, I put my camera away for 5 years.
Architecture is a very demanding career, and I did not have any time to be doing Photography the way I wanted. but on the other hand, while studying Architecture, I immersed myself in the History of Renaissance Painters that in the future would help me to understand more about Lights and Shadows in the way they used in their paintings. and how to relate the same Concept of the Light and Shadows we use today in Photography.
Many years have pass since those days and a lot of water have run under the bridge.
Nowadays I’m totally. Passionate about Photography, that is my world and Real Passion.
To end this Panel Discussion, I would like add somethings that I consider are very important in the Art of Photography.

Photography for me is very unique and complex Art expressed through your personality as a Photographer.

The Art of Studio Photography for Portraits using one Light as a source of illumination has 3 very important components:

1.- The Lights and Shadows that creates the environment and was recreated by the great Renaissance Painters (Leonardo Da Vici, Michelangelo,
Botticelli among others) but for this discussion will pick Rembrandt from whom (we Photographers) copied his nuances of Lights and Shadows,
obtaining a basic composition that in Photography is called Rembrandt Light (little triangle of light on one side of the face under the eye on the
cheek while the other side of the face is on Shadow). when using one light.
2.- Capturing the essence of a model in all its meaning, whether it is Sensuality or the fact of not even looking at the camera, you can capture that
intimate moment of the person.
3.- The Framing or Cropping that for me is very important. In Cropping (which is an Art by itself) is where you really condense the essence of your art
as a photographer.

At this time, I’m dedicated to Portraits, Dramatic Portraits and Boudoir Photography.

In my Boudoir Sessions my Philosophy is this: “The Sky is the Limit with Boudoir Photography.”
Whether the location is a Studio, a Home, a Store Showroom, or outdoors, there are not restrictions, and a Woman can pick a Style that fits her Personality or Fulfills her Fantasies.
My Boudoir Photo sessions are so much more than just a Photography Assignment.
They are an experience that is empowering, making the Female Model the center of attention and allowing her to be Pampered. I capture the Beauty of every Woman and preserve it in the most Artful way.
I want to Highlight the Female Figure instead of Hiding it, Highlighting the Innate Sensuality of my Model.
Boudoir shows and celebrates the Beauty of the Female Body, and engages in a play with the location, Accessories and Clothes that enhance and emphasize a Woman’s form as well as depict her own Stile.
Boudoir Photography now is a growing trend and Woman of all ages seek to have Intimate Photos taken in a Tasteful and Art way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art and Photography is Passion, I always try to be the best in what I do not leaving any gaps or loose ends in my Artwork.

The way I do any session of photography, the way I treat the models, my colleagues, my editors, treating them in the most respectful manner, I think. that’s what sets me apart.
It is not a matter of having a good artwork, it is a matter of how humble you are in dealing with people of all kinds.
I can help to get so excited when I get Published in a magazine, that really makes me happy and proud knowing that my work is recognized from people in this media.
It has not been easy; it has been a long way that I have travel in this beautiful journey. that is Photography.
I always think in a positive way when I’m doing an assignment. and if something goes wrong, I fix it right away.
Sometimes when you are down for any reason in my case that is the state of mind that leads me to Create and get out quickly to be able to keep going.
The lessons that I have learned along the way is never but never get down for the critics that people that don’t know what they are taking about let you go down, remember that your Art is what you have created and at the end, you are the Artist and what you are showing is you creativity, good or bad but is yours, so you will always have the last word on it.
My legacy is already fulfilled in a very personal way when I see my photography that will remain through the times and years to come when I’m gone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Without any hesitation I will take them to: Miami Design District
Winwood
Vizcaya Museum & Garden
Calle 8 Litle Havana (nice restaurants around)
Bayside Market Place
Superblue Miami Art Experience.
and last,
Miami Sunset Cocktail Cruice
