We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Buckmir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a writer. In fifth grade, the teacher asked us to write a book. At the time I was really into mystery novels written by R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike so I wrote a book inspired by those novels called The Job. It was written on index cards and bound in yarn. In the About the Author section I declared, “One day I’ll be an author.” I still have that book. It was my first taste of having my work published and shared with others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t think anyone who has ever accomplished anything claims the road to success was easy. With both of my books, I try to find the positive in the unfortunate. My first book, Plenty of Laughs: One Woman’s Journey Navigating the Online Dating Waters is a comical account of my online dating experiences. My most recent book, Everything Will Be Okay seeks to find purpose in trauma. Surviving domestic violence has motivated me to spread awareness and inspire others.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed with the beach, so I assume that my best friend would share the same interest. There’s just something about sun, sand and surf that soothes the soul.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my mom for supporting both books. She comes to all of my events and always celebrates my writing.
