We had the good fortune of connecting with Myleka Barnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myleka, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because, I’ve always been into the arts as a child. I love anything that is art related whether that be music, dance, paintings, etc. I’ve danced my entire life, and have a great love for music. I also use to really enjoy painting and sketching in my sketchbook on my free time. Photography is something I’ve always been passionate about, I consider photography art. You can capture so many emotions in a single image. Still images can be interpreted like a painting and I love that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of my determination, and my willingness to create opportunities for myself as a photographer and model. After relocating from New York in 2021, I really pushed myself to put my business out there. I strongly believe in the power of networking, and I’ve definitely taken full advantage of the benefits. I came to Florida knowing only one person in my city, to now knowing numerous amounts of fellow creatives, models, and entrepreneurs. Just by simply being myself, I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities, and worked with so many amazing individuals. These people have contributed to my work, and play a huge role in how far I’ve come. Is it easy? No it’s not but being a business owner and creative is not easy. You have to work smart, not hard. You have to stay teachable, and be open to constructive criticism. Really understanding that having a business involves a lot of sacrifice and consistency. Also realizing that every day, every week and every month will be different. You will have your busy moments, and you will have your slow moments. Knowing what to do and how to utilize your time in those slow moments is very important. I want the world to see that I am passionate about my work by what I display as an artist. I want to inspire other photographers whether they are new in the field or a veteran. Overall I want my work to speak for itself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Orlando has so many things to do besides the obvious places like Disney World, Universal Studios, etc. If my best friend came to visit I would definitely start the day off at the Orlando Musuem of Art, then after check out Lakeridge Winery, grab something to eat at Hampton Social, and if we have enough space for dessert we can go to Everglazed donuts in Disney Springs. A day full of art, wine, great food and music is the perfect mixture of an exciting and eventful day!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my close friends deserve a lot of credit in my story. They are my backbone, and my support system in not only my career but my life.
