We had the good fortune of connecting with Allexa Fiori and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allexa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Conducting any type of business is risk taking. It is important to look at your company’s corporate culture. Any type of culture is risky for business especially when it contributes to the company’s growth. At first, it might sound a bit intimidating but think about two key factors: Perception and personality. You can alter perception and the second is less likely to change throughout the years. Taking risks is about employing your perception and the best features for yourself to grow in your career. As a young professional I have learned to manage risk efficiently by evaluating the current risk and determining if it reflects or facilitates my goals. It is also important to look back on mistakes and learn from them, we are not all perfect, success does not happen overnight, it takes discipline and determination. In essence, risk helps you learn new skills that you may have been intimidated in trying. Often, fear takes over or we go into fight or flight. But being in these situations helps us define our true objectives. Bottom line, it is important to understand taking risks is not a bad thing. Understanding that loosing occasionally is part of life opportunities. Instead of thinking of what might go wrong, take a leap, and concentrate on where you want to be.
Risk taking has only helped my career. Asking for more responsibilities outside my job scope to broaden my knowledge. When I started my career out of college I was hired as an income auditor. I took the opportunity to learn as much as I can. As many people find themselves unhappy to take on more responsibilities outside their scope of work, I changed my mind set and took on additional roles to become cross trained in all areas of accounting. As a full-time accountant and licensed realtor, it never hurts to ask. If you don’t ask it will never happen. Worst scenario the answer is no, and if that is the case, find an alternative and always have a backup plan. A good boss will want to help you grow professionally and achieve what you deserve.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My goal is to help and inspire others by sharing a bit of what got me started in the industry along the way. I started my career in hospitality with Marriott International as an auditor. From there, I worked with publicly traded companies in the digital advertising industry, consumers, travel, and healthcare. My ability to take on tasks, get the job done quickly and efficiently and having worked for diverse companies, I am used to taking on additional responsibilities outside of my usual scope of work. I understand the importance of being open-minded and flexible, particularly with the startup of new projects. This is what led me to real estate. What sets me apart? I believe in bringing the finer details into focus. Every real estate transaction has financial value. I come with the knowledge of the current market, the impact specific transactions have on clients and the skills to facilitate and guide them in the right direction. Nothing has been easy, of course I have learned to work and adapt to different cultures in the workplace, how to manage my manager (yes, this goes for working with other agents as well). By learning to master these skills has helped me efficiently execute deals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live where people vacation!! South Florida has so many fun activities you can plan throughout the course of a week. First and foremost, many visit South Florida for the beaches. If you are traveling here for a week here are the must do’s on my list: Spend the day in Miami, visit South Beach, try the restaurants (Big Pink and the Versace mansion are a must try) visit the Miami art district and Wynwood walls.
Now, if you really are here for the beach, you must spend a few days in the Florida Keys. Sign up to snorkel at the famous statue in Key Largo, try the best seafood (Square Grouper is amazing), Bahia Honda state park to see all the nature the Florida Keys has to offer (did I mention they have a quiet beach where you can Kayak and paddle board), Visit Mallory Square in Key West to see the most amazing sunset, tour the Hemingway house, take a picture in front of the southernmost point and of course visit the oldest bar, Captain Tony’s.
But you can’t leave Florida without taking a trip to Walt Disney World!!! Here, I will share the best snacks and attractions. Disney Springs is known for the best dining Disney has to offer. If you like southern food like I do, Chef Art Smiths Homecomin is the place you want to go (I recommend the chicken biscuit sliders and the cauliflower wings) they certainly do not disappoint. Next, make your way over to Gideons bake house for the cookie of the month. Every month they
feature a cookie with a paired cold brew (my personal favorite is the original cold brew and the banana bread cookie). If it is your first time visiting the parks, I would suggest getting the park hopper, that way you can experience all the parks. Reserve fast passes for the popular attractions (space mountain, thunder mountain, avatar flight of passage, expedition Everest and guardians of the galaxy) just to name a few of my favorites. If you are visiting the parks and want a break to cool down, Magic Kingdom has a few dining options for you, my recommendation is Skipper Canteen across from the jungle cruise. In addition, there are tons of featured snacks throughout the parks (make sure you stop in adventure land to get a dole whip). Here’s a secret, the parks are not the only ones who serve dole whips, stop by Sips N Dips at Disney Springs to try a dole whip.
If you are visiting during the wine and food festival, Epcot offers different booths throughout the countries with featured food items. The cool part is you pick up a passport at the park entrance and make sure you get it stamped at every country you visit.
But to have the entire Disney experience it would not be complete if you didn’t stay at a Disney hotel or at lease visit them. The perk to staying on Disney property is they offer transportation services such as the bus, boat or monorail to all Disney theme parks and resort hotels. Now, I know what you’re thinking Disney hotels can be pricy. Did you know Disney’s Swan and Dolphin and Disney’s Swan Reserve can be booked under Marriott.com? Yes, if you are a Marriott Bonvoy member you can use your points towards your stay. These are my top must do’s when visiting Florida! If you decide to try any of my recommendations I would love to hear your feedback! DM me on my instagram page.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the credit goes to every single individual that believed in me, helped me advance in my career and pushed me to go harder when I felt like I couldn’t go any further. Those people know who they are! Truthfully it all goes to my first job at Marriott International. To my managers that mentored me, there patience, dedication and passion was never unnoticed. Everyday coming into work you felt valued and appreciated. The Director of Finance and accounting always let his team know he appreciated your work and efforts. A simple, thank you went a long way. Those are the type of people that makes you want to come to work, do the job and get it done effectively.
