We had the good fortune of connecting with JoJo Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JoJo, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My father owned a successful vodka brand in 2007 that he sold in 2011 after going through some extreme obstacles. When I was around 19 I just had the idea like hey, this is something you did that was successful that most people still have no clue about to this day, especially black people, so I thought it would be cool to get back in the business. I told him he already knows the steps so let’s do it! And here we are, 5 years later.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well the biggest thing in my opinion that sets us apart is our story. We are not just a brand owned by a bunch of corporate people that you will never see or hear of. We are a family that likes to welcome any and everyone who supports us. We are real people that you can connect with and truly see what is behind the products that nearly every adult consumes worldwide. All of our spirits go through an extra filtration process to remove congeners, which is what gives you hangovers and headaches. “No hangover, no headache” is one of our favorite mottos.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely check out Piazza Italia for their Sunday brunch. One of the best I’ve had in Fort Lauderdale and I am a huge “bruncher” and foodie in general. Shooters waterfront is one of my favorites for lunch. Paired with a lychee martini made with VG vodka!

YOLO on Las Olas is another must try for happy hour. The espresso martini made with caramel VG vodka is so delicious!

You can take a ride on the Fort Lauderdale water taxi which makes multiple stops at different Fort Lauderdale restaurants. Some of the taxis have a fully stocked bar where you can purchase drinks, including VG vodka! Shooters Waterfront happens to be one of those places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my dad. He already knew the outline of the business before we started. I wanted to get in to the liquor industry, but I did not know the ropes at all. Most people don’t. Most people just think someone owns a brand and sells it to consumers and it was way more complicated than that. It took me years just to know as much as I do and sometimes I still feel like I’m trailing behind. I just have to remind myself to focus on the objective and not the path I took to get here.
