Meet Bria Scott | Content Creator + Social Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bria Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After the pandemic, it sort of dawned on me that the combination of skills that I possessed couldn’t be put into one job description. I love a lot of things, and I am good at a lot of things and for some reason, I felt that the only way to showcase that was through working for myself. My mom also played a huge role in my decision as well. She has always been a self-starter and for as long as I can remember she has encouraged my sister and me to have something of our own, and looking back that was the most important thing to me, to have something of my own.
The desire also came from my newfound desire to chill the hell out. I used to live by the motto, “You’ll sleep when you die,” but nah really you’ll die when you don’t sleep. I knew that I could find a way to work my ass off, live the life that felt right for me, and still get a litttttle sleep along the way!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe it’s my genuine passion for storytelling that sets me apart. I create authentic and engaging content that resonates with my audience, regardless of whether I have 1 follower or 100K. I genuinely care about the people I’m sharing with and aim to be a trusted source of honesty and authenticity, whether in influencing or social media management. My goal is for my content to feel true to who I am.
I’m most proud of my ability to adapt to every obstacle thrown my way. I’ve only been in my post-grad life for about a year now and took on my first client three months after graduating. Growing my business to four clients and making it my primary source of income is something I never thought I’d be saying. Not only have I achieved goals I never anticipated, but above all, I am proud to lead a fulfilling and joyful life.
The turning point for me was in 2019 when I was sitting at the desk of what I thought was my dream internship. Wearing the most boring work clothes and doing the same thing every day, I realized that it wasn’t at all my dream. It was what I thought was supposed to be my dream. That’s when I knew that, in whatever way, shape, or form, I wanted to live a big, beautiful, and colorful life. I remember saying, “I want to work somewhere I can wear the rainbow to work, and it not be a problem.”
I still found myself going down the path of what I thought was supposed to be my journey. That has been the hardest part, changing my mindset to realize that life doesn’t have to look the way someone else thinks it’s supposed to or the way everyone else does. Success is subjective, and it looks different for everyone. Waking up every day and reminding myself that I define my own success is what keeps me going. And I want to remind everyone reading this that you define your future. You have to wake up every single day and live your life, no one else’s, so choose the life that makes you excited to get out of bed every morning.
Looking ahead, I’m genuinely excited about the future, even if it sounds cliché. Working for myself has taught me the value of having something that is truly mine. The realization that my future rests in my hands is both intimidating and motivating. I know that the only direction is upward from here. The possibilities that lie ahead and the joy of experiencing this journey with my family make me even more enthusiastic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my utmost appreciation and gratitude to my incredible mother, Kistra Scott. She is truly the driving force behind everything I have achieved. The most significant shoutout I want to give my mom is a heartfelt “thank you” for instilling in me an unwavering belief in myself. Because of her, I genuinely believe that there are no limits to what I can accomplish. Her constant support and encouragement have made me feel invincible.
I also want to take a moment to give a special shoutout to Mission Fitness, my beloved gym. The group of remarkable, resilient, and empowering women who surround me there is an immense blessing that words cannot adequately convey. Strong women have an incredible ability to empower and inspire others, and being in the presence of such strength is truly remarkable.
