We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Hyde and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
“Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable” is a phrase I frequently hear. I would be lying if I told you that taking risks doesn’t raise my anxiety levels or make me uncomfortable because it does. However, I remind myself that it’s okay to feel uncomfortable because it will pass, and taking the risk will lead to a brighter future and personal growth.

With risk comes both ups and downs. In terms of the risks I have taken, I would say they have all played out quite well. A few examples of the risks I’ve taken include going to college with little to no scholarship and stressing every semester about affordability. However, I graduated with a Marketing Degree, made an impact on my campus, and landed a job at a prestigious corporate company right after graduation.

Another significant risk I took was quitting my 9-5 job, only eight months after starting, to pursue my dream of entrepreneurship. While this risk is still quite fresh, and I’m still working out the kinks, I can confidently say that I am happier than ever because I believe in myself and my vision, and that’s all that matters.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It was a bit tough getting to where I am today, and I am not exactly where I want to be just yet, mainly because of finances, but I will soon get there. Before realizing I was destined for a life of entrepreneurship, I believed and accepted the 9-5 lifestyle right out of college. It was nice for a while until, 8 months later, I realized I wasn’t that great at the job and that 9-5s were not for me. Therefore, I quit the job even after just signing a lease for a new apartment. When I was working, I saved up some money to get by on bills and the beginning stages of my content career for the next few weeks until I landed a job to assist me with all my new yet expensive bills. Instead of just getting any job to pay the bills, I used the knowledge from the book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad,’ and I pursued a job that would benefit my personal growth as an entrepreneur, and that job was in sales.

While working this job, I also started my first-ever podcast, ‘Rooting For Everybody Black: The Black Entertainment Podcast.’ This podcast provided a space for me to share my love for movies and TV shows made for and including black and brown people. While I enjoyed working on the first season of my podcast for a couple of months, I eventually had to discontinue it as the sales job implemented new rules, such as no personal laptop or computer use, which greatly affected me because I used all my downtime at the job to edit my videos, audio, conduct research, and manage social media posts.

Since my sales job was slow during certain months and I had to pick up an extra job to pay bills, I couldn’t work on content either due to job restrictions or exhaustion during any free time I had. That’s when I knew it was time to switch gears, so I quit the sales job and started working in a warehouse to make more money with fewer hours. I also went from making Podcast Content to Entertaining and vlog Content on my Personal channels.

Now I have a bit more time on my hands to do what I love. However, what I’m really patiently waiting for is moving back to my hometown this August with my girlfriend to one of my mother’s owned properties and paying off the mortgage to own my first home. Being said my expenses will drop tremendously and my time and energy will grow infinitely. Therefore, with the Money I have saved up I’ll be able to become a full-time content creator to grow my channels, do freelance work, and start my very own business.

Through my journey so far, I’ve learned to enjoy the little things in life, be okay with uncertainty, trust my intuition, and believe in myself even when not everyone is on my team yet. I also want everyone to know that I’m not a content creator because of the money or fame, but because I genuinely love it and it makes me feel whole. I love making others smile and laugh, and I know that is my gift from God. I also love teaching and helping others succeed. Nevertheless, my social media channels are named ‘Original Chris,’ and I call my supporters the ‘Original Crew’ because I believe it’s important to be your true authentic self and to never let anyone dim your light.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
(I am not sure if this question is regarding to Miami, FL or where I live currently in KY)

If this prompt is for Miami I would say downtown because I love the NightLife Miami has to provide. Also the beach because it is relaxing and zen.

As far as Where I stay It is in Northern Kentucky near Cincinnati and my Hometown where I will be moving back to in August is Louisville, KY. My favorite Spots of NKY/CIncy is the Newport on The Levee because I love being near the water and enjoy the restaurants or entertainment they provided. I also love the black owned bars in cincy such as Cinema and Nostalgia it is a great vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my girlfriend Ki’Azja for always supporting me, being down for my crazy ideas, and believing in me when no one else did. I also want to shout out my mom and granny for their continuous encouragement and networking with everyone they know to help improve my channels. Additionally, I want to thank my entrepreneur friends, Zakayla and George, for being great role models and showing me what entrepreneurship is all about.

Moreover, I would like to express gratitude towards the books, audiobooks, consistent YouTube videos, and documentaries that have provided me with encouragement, confidence, and knowledge. Some of the titles include: ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad,’ ‘Shoe Dog,’ ‘The Alchemist,’ ‘The Total Money Makeover,’ ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ ‘Get Smart with Money’ on Netflix, and numerous YouTube videos by Tommy Bryson.”
