We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
For the love of dogs, that’t why I got into dog training, but it is a lot more than that. Everyone always says to me “you are so lucky to be able to work with dogs for a living”, and I am, but way more goes into it. You have to be a people person. You have to be able to connect with people and communicate with them in a way that they will trust you with their beloved pets. To most people their dogs are everything to them, but if you cannot connect with the people then you will not be able to help their dogs. Unfortunately that is also my biggest problem when finding employees. They are dog people, but NOT great with people. Besides being a people person you also have to be excellent at timing, organization, training, time management, and be able to adapt to change your plans according to the needs of the dog. Most people in this industry will tell you it is not only rewarding but it is emotionally exhausting as well. You become invested in the well being of these dogs and only want the best for them. Any outsiders looking in, I would say make sure you love people as much as you love dogs!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dynamite Dog Training has been my company and pride and joy for the past 10 plus years. We offer strictly force free, positive reinforcement training. We work with all breeds, shapes, and sizes. What sets us apart is that we have two training facilities that are strictly for training. We offer day training where you can drop off your pups for a half or full day of training. We have a very unique training model that helps the dogs and owners accelerate their training while having fun!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Florida their are so many great spots to go to! I would head to the west coast to Marco Island and stay at one of the great hotel resorts their. After that we would come back home and check out the Avenue in Delray Beach and enjoy all of the nightlife and great restaurants there!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Victoria Stilwell was and is a huge inspiration and mentor to me and the industry. She has her own dog training school now which is the best of the best, Victoria Stilwell Academy. I would love to give a shout our to her and the whole team!
