We had the good fortune of connecting with Honey German and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Honey, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Harlem, New York, during a major snowstorm, which set a precedent for how I would approach life: “We Gon Make It!”

Growing up in the “City that Never Sleeps” with periods spent in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where people make things happen daily despite obstacles and poverty, crafted an individual that views life as a series of anticipated inconveniences, met with dual swords in hand.

The person you see here today finds no problems, only solutions. When you vent to me about an issue, my mind is already crafting your resolution.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently work for iHeartMedia / Power 105.1 in New York.

As a born and raised New Yorker who lives for Hip-Hop, it gives me great pride to be able to work in a space that allows me to be my true self, exist in my OWN culture, and help give a voice to my people.

There’s no putting on a mask when I walk into the building or join a meeting; I show up to work as my TRUEST self, and that makes my work-life totally worth LIVING. My career is something that I’m extremely proud of, and it stems from loving what I do and being a true representation of our listeners.

I also get to spread my love for radio and expand my reach with my Latino Hermanos and Hermanas via our “Life In Spanglish” podcast with my co-host Carolina Bermudez. Yet another form of media that gives me a platform to speak up for my people, which includes New Yorkers, children of immigrants, women of color, people with disabilities, and more.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First things first, I’m a theater lover, so we’ve got to at least do one Broadway musical. I wouldn’t mind doing ‘Wicked’ or ‘Back to the Future’ AGAIN.

A good cut of meat and drinks at STK in Meatpacking is a must, followed by some shopping in Tribeca. After that, let’s visit ‘The Book of HOV’ exhibit in Brooklyn.

Then, we’re crossing over to New Jersey, where you get the most spectacular views of NY. You can either do lunch at Liberty House or take a helicopter tour with FlyNYOn.

Are you tired yet?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All praise goes to the man upstairs, GOD, for where I stand today as an individual.

But… there must be a special shout-out given to all the women in my life who not only paved the way but also opened doors for me, set examples on how I should move, and helped support me along the way. “It takes a village” of WOMEN in my case, you’re GEMS I cherish.
