We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Welsh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Gringa Flan may be a gourmet flan company, but we are really all about the love, connection and memories around our product. When people enjoy Gringa Flan, it makes them happy – and for many, it reminds them of a time when their Abuela or Tia made them this very special dessert.

We have been told that our flan is the BEST flan they ever tried. We were named the BEST FLAN of Miami, by New Times, in 2016 — and our super proud of that designation. Flan is practically every where in Miami, so to be awarded this designation was HUGE.

The success of the brand is also about our first ingredient – LOVE!
We make our flans to order and you can taste the love. We are also the first flan company that offered over 30 flavors. The most popular of our flavors are the Signature Coconut (served with a crunchy toasted coconut topping), Cuban Espresso and Traditional Caramel. We make several sizes too – from single serves to party sizes!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated from Florida International University with a Computer Science degree! So, in my professional life, I am very left brained and analytical. But with Gringa Flan – I am also very creative and artsy. Best of both worlds I guess.

My day time job lends me to work as a system analyst with a fantastic team that completely believes in collaboration.
I am very fortunate to have a job I love and that understand my demands as a small business owner too!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are all so lucky to Live in Miami…

I love it…and would guide my BFF to all my favorite spots which include..

– Sunrise on Miami Beach (maybe with a little yoga) and then breakfast at NewsCafe!
– Bike Ride in the everglades..along with a sunset Airboat Ride
– my favorite spots for chilling are Alabama Jacks for conch fritters and a spicy bloody mary — and of Sunset in Key Largo at the world famous Caribbean Club!
– and my Sunday mornings are spent getting quiet — at Thalatta Estates Yoga by the Bay. It’s my ME time… Can’t say enough about this amazing Yoga class 🙂

I am an outdoors lover — so I can’t forget to mention a bike ride on Key Biscayne or a Walk up the Richenbacker Causeway…such a treasure of Miami!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very fortunate to have an amazing support system in my family and friends. They are amazing. Among those cheerleaders is my husband. His name is Danilo Vargas — and he loves to help people, especially small business. This has been his life work for nearly 20 years!
