We had the good fortune of connecting with Roman Nielavitzky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roman, what inspires you?
I’m mostly inspired by my family. We’re now a three generations business, with over 70 years of experience handcrafting luxury leather goods. Since I was a child I use to go to our factory in Buenos Aires, Argentina and already felt like I wanted to manage the family business myself. Seeing my grandfather and father run the business since I was a child inspired me to now take the role of business partner here in the U.S.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a three-generation family business. Since 1948 we handcraft luxury leather accessories. Everything we do is handmade in Argentine leather, one of the best quality leathers in the world along maybe only with the Italian.
What sets us apart from others is that each piece is unique, we don’t create mass production bags, we handcraft each unit with perfection and specifically paying attention to each detail in order to make that difference that the luxury market demands. Our artisans work with us since the start of the business in 1948, if not the first generation, the second. We also have very friendly and accessible prices for such pieces of top quality leather.
We overcome lots of challenges over this 75 years. In Argentina we have over 17 stores in the country and we arrived in the U.S. in 2021. We’re still “young” here in the States but we’re growing everyday. We see a growing niche of people that don’t want extremely eccentric and flashy leather goods, instead they value more the quality of the product than the name of the brand. I think quiet luxury will grow a lot in the upcoming years.
We want people to know that we’re a family business that has been doing this since 1948, we know and love what we do. We care for our customers and employees as they are part of our family. Every item is unique and created with the customer in mind. Luxury is not price, is quality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to the beach, maybe in Hollywood as it’s less crowded and you can find a nice spot to sit down and relax. Then I would go to a restaurant, we have great gastronomy places here in Miami, and later to a nice bar/club in the Brickell/Wynwood area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family. For teaching me the values and education that is then translated into the business. We have lots of employees and suppliers that have been working with us since we started in 1948. I think that speaks a lot on how we try to create this family environment, where everyone feels part of it.
