We had the good fortune of connecting with Boutros Bounahra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Boutros, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was always interested in architecture because I was perplexed at how buildings were constructed. I was also fascinated with technology and the speed at which it changes. I was always eagerly learning about the features of every new piece of tech that I could get my hands on and enjoyed finding workarounds for their limitations.

As I got older, I studied business and art but ultimately decided to pursue a profession that combined my curiosity for construction and inclination to technology. I enrolled at FAU (Florida Atlantic University) to study architecture, and this is where my skills and interests were honed. To my surprise, studying architecture was not only about designing buildings but a more poetic journey in the exploration of creativity and world of design. For six years, I immersed myself in everything related to architecture and design, spending my waking and sleeping hours dreaming about it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After 10 years and newly obtained licensure, I took the final step; the leap of faith of deciding to open my own architecture firm. Over the past 6 years, it has grown into a full-service design firm with over 2 million square feet of contributions to the built environment which I am deeply grateful for. It has been a very fulfilling journey. It is always exciting to ask the question before taking on a new project, how will this project change me and the world for the better? If the answer sounds convincing enough, I’ll pursue the project no matter the scope, size, typology, or location. Currently, most of our work is in the residential sector because there is something quite magical when you mix architecture and human idiosyncrasies. When our clients’ personalities are reflected in the architecture, interesting spaces, programs and geometries emerge.

My fascination with technology is still alive and well and I Integrate it in everything I do which allows us to be hyper efficient in our work. The benefit of this is that we can be very hands-on and intimate with every project. Throughout the entire process, we maintain a personal connection with our clients which facilitates clear communication. This along with our hyper responsiveness is our key to successful projects which I am very proud of.

In terms of struggles, the entire practice of architecture is a challenge, and that challenge is to solve problems. Our job is to find solutions that are functional and aesthetically pleasing. Since most of our training is in problem solving, the idea of a challenge is always embraced.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Miami is very exciting and can be quite fulfilling regardless of social preferences. Our office is located in Wynwood, which is the arts district of Miami. It is also a few blocks away from the Design District so being in the heart of Art and Design really makes living here quite fulfilling. When a close friend visits, I always start in this area. There is a plethora of exquisite cafes but one that always stands out is Suite Habana Café where we would spend hours of conversation. Walking around Wynwood is kind of an outdoor museum if you will, not only because of the street art and murals but because of the rapid growth and development of the neighborhood. Every day that passes, you see something new which is like an ever-changing museum that will never have the same pieces again. Admission to this is free.

The Design District is a creative neighborhood of Design, Architecture, and Innovation. Wandering through the streets, you’ll find yourself surrounded by architectural gems that serve as both backdrop and inspiration. Every building is a testament to the district’s commitment to pushing the envelope, creating a unique and visually exciting environment. For the retail aspect, what sets it apart is not just the products on display but the interior design of the stores themselves. Each boutique is a work of art, with meticulously curated interiors that always leaves you inspired.

Miami is a city of spontaneity and diversity, and that’s precisely what I love about it. Rather than adhering to a rigid itinerary, I prefer to leave room for the unexpected and allow the city to reveal its many facets. However, one of the most important part of this trip would be to leave room for touring places to live as its hard for a visitor to deny the city’s magnetic appeal of making it your home. Being open to the idea of living here adds another layer of excitement to the journey.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey in architecture started at FAU (Florida Atlantic University). There, I was surrounded by very inspiring professors, researchers, practicing architects, and fellow colleagues. During those years, I immersed into pursuing a deep understanding of architecture which required many sacrifices and encouragement which could not be possible without them. It was such a pleasure to be constantly motivated and inspired by everyone around me.
