We had the good fortune of connecting with Shane Srogi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shane, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It took some time to figure out the correct receipt. I knew early in life that I was happiest creating and telling stories. Add in an interest in documenting history and a passion for digital technology. I’ve been fortunate to live in many regions of the country, and expressing those experiences through visual means has always been a way of connecting with others. It all came together when someone put a camera in my hand.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My Art is about the environment I find myself in. Growing up in Rural, Suburban, and Urban settings gives me perspective on what I create. Immersing yourself in an environment has an impact on the human experience. I’m interested in those stories. What’s it like to be confronted by the vastness of the Everglades? Being pounded by a hurricane or surrounded by the spectacle of Miami Beach at 1 a.m. on a Saturday night. As a Creative you are in a marathon, not a sprint. I have endless endurance. It is said we live in interesting times. My photographs are a love letter to the big, beautiful, crazy world we are part of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Miami. It’s where I got my start! It’s going to be a whirlwind,I hope you packed right. Snorkeling at Biscayne National Park, then Dinner in Little Havana at Cafe La Trovaz. Try the Ropa Vieja. Desert at Azucar Ice Cream Company. Relax on South Beach with a stay at Blanc Kara, then walk over to Joe’s Stone Crab. Because Stone Crab is a must! Grab the bikes and road trip to Shark Valley – Everglades National Park. Drive the Big Cypress loop for some Photography. It’s like a time machine into the Jurassic period. Explore my old haunt, Coconut Grove, with a little walk in Barnacle Historic State Park. Dinner at Lombardi’s Ristorante at Bayside. They do Chicken Parm, right. Catch The Cure at Kaseya Center!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d get played off the stage during an acceptance speech. The list is that long. My Mom, of course. Her support meant everything. I lost her recently. I wish she could have seen me get picked up by Zuma Wire Press. Getting published in the Wall Street Journal and Internationally recognized is a career milestone. For anyone that’s a Creative the support of Family and Friends makes all the difference. Having a Mentor like Vincent Versace means I’m not navigating in the dark. Thanks, everyone!
