We had the good fortune of connecting with Shardé Alderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shardé, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business when I was going on job interviews for some entry level positions. I literally met every executive on the company only to leave the interview crying. I called my mom expressing to her that I didn’t see myself working in corporate America, the gray cubicles are not intriguing my creativity, and simply that I wanted to be my own boss. My mom and I went down a list of different types of businesses and i stopped in nail salon owner and mentioned to her, “you’ve never seen a black owned nail salon”! This is typically where the journey of my nail salon started

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My entire shop was designed by me! A lot of clients ask who did the decor and I’m always elated to tell them what I did and how I did it, by bringing my personal touch of color, design and ideas to life. On my free time, I love to watch design shows and channels such as HGTV to get ideas for decorating. I guess I did such a great job interior designing my 3 shops, that clients ask me to help out with ideas for their home!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Is tell a friend to go to the city or even Brooklyn for sightseeing. Brooklyn is s hub for good food and unique restaurants, as well as being a great getaway destination. You can rent a teepee and go glamping by the river, or even catch a concert. The people are just as unique as their style but yet very friendly and welcoming. In the city i think it’s fun to grab a citi bike and explore the town but just riding around, and even tour the monumental world trade center area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people who deserve some recognition are myvteam members who did it out through the slow times but who completely deliver on the fast days , as well as my clients who have been loyal to us through our journey and transition from different locations to better spaces.
