We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Olowonira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Trusting in myself, embracing my chosen path, and nurturing my creativity propels me forward on the entrepreneurial journey. Even when a step back is required, it is okay- I perceive it as a brief detour, a precursor to vaulting ten steps ahead. Maintaining this mindset as a constant reminder empowers me to endure and persist without succumbing to the thought of giving up. As a fine jewelry designer, I take pride in crafting distinctive pieces that are not just visually stunning but also carry narratives of culture, womanhood, and nature. By incorporating responsibly sourced metals, natural gemstones, and diamonds, every creation becomes a catalyst for meaningful conversations and a timeless visual experience. I aim to invite everyone to explore and unravel their own stories within the distinctive design of each piece.
As a first-generation Nigerian American, I challenge the conventional narrative that success is confined to fields like medicine, law, or engineering. I am forging a new path, not just for myself but for women who have felt pressured to conform to a limited definition of success. Entrepreneurship shouldn’t require sacrificing financial stability or one’s entire life.
I firmly believe that an authentic blend of passion and relentless effort, combined with a compelling narrative, can guide an individual toward success. When your work resonates and positively influences others, success becomes an inherent part of your journey—it is simply a matter of sustaining that momentum.
What should our readers know about your business?
What distinguishes my jewelry is the unique dialogue sparked by each piece. These are not just accessories; they are conduits for thought-provoking conversations that honor the core of culture, nature, and womanhood. My dedication is unwavering to craft designs that emanate from a place of authenticity and are meticulously crafted with precision and finesse. I design jewelry with the intention for the pieces not only to be worn as statements but also to be kept as treasures. At the core of my philosophy is empowering clients with a comprehensive narrative for each collected piece. I am delighted to incorporate sustainable practices into my work. With operations in both NYC and LA, my production now extends to the vibrant landscapes of Peru. I take pride in upholding responsible practices, employing recycled gold, and sourcing gold through Peru’s conscientious female miners. Ethical gemstones from miners in West Africa, accompanied by the brilliance of natural and lab diamonds crafted in eco-friendly, solar-powered labs, enhance the allure of my creations.
The integration of sustainable practices into my jewelry production has undeniably elevated the storytelling prowess embedded in my designs.
Currently, I am immersed in preparations for two upcoming shows to conclude the year 2023—one in New York during NYC Jewelry Week with Reciprocity, and another in Fredericksburg, Texas, at Vaudeville. I am eager to convey that this marks just the beginning, with much more in store for my fine jewelry brand, COCOEROW.
I extend an invitation to all to join me on an exhilarating adventure of entrepreneurship, courage, and creativity.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The exceptional women and men in my life who generously share their stories with me. They not only lend a compassionate ear to my experiences but also actively engage and contribute to the ongoing narrative of my life. A special mention to my grandmother for her invaluable storytelling prowess.
