We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Lonarc and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe we’re all born artists. It’s one of the many incredible aspects of being human. There was never another option for me than to be an artist. I never saw myself as anything less than that. It was either I do art, or I do nothing at all. I didn’t pursue art, it pursued me. Since I can remember.

There’s a quote from one of my favorite books that I would like to share, and I believe it’s the perfect answer I’d choose for this question:

Living life as an artist is a practice.
You are either engaging in the practice
or you’re not.

“It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it.
It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.”
You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

We tend to think of the artist’s work as the output.

The real work of the artist
is a way of being in the world.”

The Creative Act by Rick Rubin

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wholeheartedly believe that life is not a race nor a competition, it is rather a journey of self discovery. One of the things I am most proud of about myself is the fact that I haven’t stopped making art.

I am one of those people that don’t have a plan, and if I do, it’s a short term plan. I like to jump and let the universe catch me. I think that’s the beauty of life, that we don’t know what the future holds. And if you just trust, you end up in the most incredible places.
And so that’s what I’ve tried to do when it comes to my career and everything in life really.

Has it been easy? Not at all. Life can be beautiful but I can also be extremely rough. Sometimes we don’t really know why we choose the hard path, for me it was leaving my country alone at a very early age. Why did I do it? Not sure. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. Was it hard? Extremely. Did it help me get to where I am? 100%.

Everything happens exactly the way it’s supposed to.
If I didn’t make those decisions I wouldn’t have learned that there’s an infinite amount of choices for us in this world.
It applies to everything: schools, careers, religions, relationships, friends.
You can literally choose whatever you want to experience.
And it took me a while to realize that I have the power to manifest the life of my dreams. But through enough trial and error I started to gain clarity.
And I wouldn’t have gone through so much trial and error if I stayed at home, in my comfort zone.

I want the world to know that I’m just starting, slowly but surely. I’ve been building my brand as an independent DJ for about 9 months and I am extremely excited for the future. I have so much hope and my brain is bursting with ideas. But always taking it easy, day by day, and if the plan changes then so be it! Just happy to be here now.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Florida has been my home for the past 11 years. I’m absolutely in love with this place. Whenever I have friends or family visiting I like to make sure they experience the magnificent nature spots this state has to offer before anything. So for example, the Florida springs, the Keys, the Everglades, the incredible gulf coast sunsets, the emerald beaches of the panhandle.
Just so much beauty. It’s overwhelming.

For city fun, wynwood is my spot.
I absolutely love everything it has to offer. All the outdoor bars and restaurants.
I love south beach as well, South Pointe Park is amazing, I enjoy going to the drum circles on Sundays a lot. It’s a perfect plan to catch the sunset with the most wholesome vibes.

There’s two gems that are getting pretty popular right now, Dante’s HiFi and ZeyZey. Incredible spots. Grooviest vibes in Miami.

When it comes to nightlife, there’s just too many options. I am Colombian so I am very much rooted in my culture. I love spots like Perro Negro, El Patio, Dirty Rabbit, etc. But I also love Factory Town, Floyd, 1-800 lucky for the edm vibes.

My favorite restaurants in South Florida are GoBistro and all its different concepts. (GoPho, BokBok Baby, PokeGo)
They have the most incredible Asian food I’ve tried so far. The service is impeccable every time and the consistency is unmatched. 100% recommend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
What would I be without the people that helped me get here? Every artist has a community of people that have provided support. My mentors. My teachers. The people that took the time to make sure I learned the right way to do things. But also my friends, my family, the people that have inspired me and believed in me.

In my career as a DJ, there’s two people I will always be grateful for. First, Alejandro Saporiti, the main DJ and Creative Director of Bresh. He selflessly passed on his years of knowledge in this art to me. His passion for music and performance helped me rekindle the flame of passion I already had for DJing. Second, Andres Morales, CEO of Ear Candy Music. He’s believed in me since the moment we met and thanks to his help I have been able to find new opportunities in this field. Working with someone that values your work, respects you and believes in you is truly so special. My very first experiences with DJing were at house parties with my friends when I was a teenager. It’s so joyful to say it is my full time career now.

In my journey as an artist, I began playing instruments, singing, drawing and painting all by myself when I was a child. So I’m practically self taught, with the help of the internet of course.

Later on in life I picked up a new hobby, pottery. It has become my favorite form of art and I’m proud to say that I’ve gotten pretty good at it over the past 4-5 years. All thanks to my mentor Domingo Olavarria. I am so thankful I learned from the best. He spent so many hours making sure I understood the craft. And if you know how difficult it is, you’d understand how patient he was with me. Pottery changed my life in the most beautiful way.
