Meet Domenica Rossi | Photographer & Collage Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Domenica Rossi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Domenica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is a funny diction to explain what an artist endures when taking it on as a career. It can be a risk, but in most cases it is our push. It fosters innovation by encouraging artists to explore new ideas and unconventional approaches. For me, I decided to put my other careers on hold for 3 years so I could put all my energy into showing the world the art I have been transforming since childhood. Transforming being because I have been “doodling” mandalas on school work and notes since elementary school. Deciding to open myself up and share work I had hidden for so long was a risk in many ways, including financially, mentally and emotionally, but this lead me to open so many new doors to walk through. I will say that taking this risk has turned my life completely around for the better. I feel I have lived 10 lives in 3 years. I have made a name for myself as one of Miami’s finest visual artist and have work hung in some of the most prestigious homes in the city.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have delved into the realm of digital artwork, combining my fascination with symmentrical expression and my passion for photography to create captivating mandalas. Initially, I embarked on this artistic journey by utilizing photographs of currency, capturing the intricate details and symbolism embedded within monetary notes. Additionally, I explored the beauty and delicacy of the female physique, capturing intimate portraits that celebrate the human form. To add a touch of nostalgia and intrigue, I also incorporated vintage photos of renowned icons that I acquired for this purpose.
More recently, my focus has shifted towards incorporating my travel photography into my mandalas. Through my lens, I capture the breathtaking landscapes and captivating moments encountered during my travels, infusing them with the harmonious patterns and intricate therapeutic geometry of mandalas. This ongoing exploration and evolution of my artistic practice have allowed me to continuously push the boundaries of my creativity. With each new endeavor, I strive to create artwork that captivates and engages viewers, offering them a unique perspective of the world around us.
I will say it wasn’t easy. The support I had helped me overcome all my challenges and lessons I had to learn over the 3 year time period of showing my new life to the world. One of the major lessons I have learned was about investing in myself. Not just financially but also energetically. Getting into a creative mode takes a certain energy that I do not walk around with 24/7. There is a time and place for it that will sometimes come out of nowhere. So jumping on those opportunities have become the most important periods of time where I need to isolate myself and use it the right way.
My artwork is a process that I take very seriously because it is a form of therapeutic art for the viewers. Due to its meditative nature, promoting relaxation and stress reduction. The process encourages mindfulness, fostering awareness of the present moment. Symbolic meanings within mandalas offer a channel for self-expression and personal exploration. Lastly, the balanced and harmonious design of mandalas contributes to a sense of order and emotional well-being.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami has so many little worlds inside of it. Each world giving its own story. If I had a week to show someone around, I would taken them to a different section each day. Starting with Wynwood so we can engage with all the murals and do a little bit of shopping at the small businesses. There are a few hidden gems to grab food and drinks such as Uchi and Savage Labs since their burlesque shows featuring one of my favorite DJs, @Mindgazm, and burlesque performers, @Nataliya.moves.
Since Wynwood is a given, I will mention that I do enjoy to show my friends some of South Beach’s communal gatherings like at the park for Acro Yoga. Around that area there are a ton of small business restaurants that will blow your mind like the pizza at Casa Sorbillo.
Muscle Beach is a great time to grab some sun and a workout. You can find me there from time to time with friends. It is definitely a spot where I take visitors so they can get more of an idea of the active life we have down here. It can be tricky grabbing food in South Beach. If you enjoy an excellent Indian dish, go to Akash.
Since most of my favorite places revolve around art and hot photography spots, Design District is another place I would go to spend the day to look around. Just north of it is one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants, Mandolin Aegean Bistro. from there, if you feel like taking a little drive to get the best tacos of your life, go to Uptown 66!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
From the very beginning of my 3 year journey in Miami, Art Bound Miami and the Les Couleur Charity have been holding a space for me to show my artwork. This past Basel I had the honor of being the featured artist at the Les Couleurs Art Gallery in downtown Miami.
Another shoutout I would love to give are my dear family and friends. From helping me pick up artwork hours away from town, to showing up at my events to cheer me on and help me connect and expand my network in the art industry. They have been so supportive behind this new chapter and refuse to let me stop. They help me see the bigger picture more than I can on my own.
