We had the good fortune of connecting with Doneida Simpson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Doneida, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business actually didn’t start as a business, it started out as a passion and an idea. I’ve always had a love for Fashion and so when I was considering what to study in College it was easy to decide on studying Fashion Designing. But it wasn’t until a couple years later after completing my certification that I decided to make a crochet bag for myself with the beautiful blue yarn I saw in the store.. I was so proud of myself when I was finished that I took it to work to show everyone. They were very impressed- so much so, one person asked to purchase it .. I was shocked but that’s how it started! I began getting orders and the rest was history

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
V’Dezdra’s Creations is an exotic fashion line that creates authentic crochet apparel for everyone and even the home. All pieces are custom designed to give you your perfect fit and style. Fashion pieces includes but not limited to swimwear, dresses, jackets and so much more. My business started off very casually and as time went on I perfected my craft and built my business presence creating logos and attended local and international fashion shows. Of course like anything else in life, challenges come but it’s great to come above these challenges. Right now my challenge is finding my community or clientele here in the states since I just migrated here however I am excited to explore all possibilities and see what comes. Giving up is never an option – perseverance is key

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is a tricky one since I’m still getting acquainted here myself 🙂 but I would for sure take her to DC and do a bike ride visiting the different monumental sites – Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool, the United States Capitol and the White House. I’ve also always wanted to do the indoor skydiving so I would convince her to do that with me .. Shopping is always a fun thing to do too and I of course would take her to my church for a good time praising God.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Diana, my first ever client who saw something that I didn’t even see and I also shout out to my mom who has supported me from day one by encouraging me to study Fashion Designing as she saw my talent and my passion from very early on
