We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Moon Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Without hesitation, the most important factor behind any success I have in my artistic pursuits is that I stay close and connected to the One who gifted me. God is the reason I can push through any hard moments in my career and come out on the other side a better artist, and a better person. Now I realize that may not be a strictly business-oriented response, however my experience has shown me that the ability to preserver and to grow is absolutely vital in this business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I discovered my God given artistic ability at a young age and have been on this amazing journey as a self-taught artist ever since. There’s no doubt at all that my own sweet Mom was my very first influencer. She saw the world through the eyes of an artist, and both she and my Dad taught me to look for beautiful things in this life. Their love of creation continues to be colorfully reflected in my work.
For me, the joy of creating is about sharing something with the world that touches a heart, lifts a spirit, and causes a smile. My paintings are a colorful celebrations of simple things in life. Photography has also been a long-time love of mine which helps me capture some of the moments that feed my creativity. I’m an avid nature lover, and am thrilled by beautiful flowers, colorful sunsets, and ocean shores. These are themes prominent in my body of work. In my paintings I go beyond the use of the brush to create texture and interest, using my favorite palette knives and other tools.
One of my favorite things about sharing what I do with people is that I have the privilege of being invited into the life of the viewer. For me it’s not just about paint on a canvas; it’s about the stories we get to tell each other around a particular painting. They find out why I make the creative choices I do and what inspired the piece, and I get to hear what drew them to it and why. Stories connect people.
Recently I was able to add to my creative base an Art Therapy Certification. I have a background in psychology and a fascination with how God puts us together. Given that, and my Mom’s 15-year progressive Alzheimer’s Disease, I’ve developed an interest in helping those who feel locked inside, for whatever the reason, experience freedom through artistic expression. I’m very curious to see where this addition could lead me.
A creative journey can be full of both deficit and abundance, not always easy even now after 30 plus years of growing my career. The world, as we know, takes different twists and turns. Like many others, I’ve seen and experienced the trickle-down effects on the art world as a whole. More personally speaking, sometimes my creative process reveals things that either surprise me, reinforce what I already knew about myself, or present me with new challenges. I actually love that, and it’s up to me what I do with those things. I continue to ride the waves of the artist life, determined to learn, grow, and view it all as opportunity and adventure.
I’m thrilled that Carol Moon Art studio is not only the place where I paint, display, and sell my work, but where I host one-on-one painting sessions, as well as boutique workshop experiences. I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities to exhibit my work to studio visitors, people following along with me on social media, and those who have gone on to become commission clients and collectors. I’m so blessed that my paintings continue to find their way into countless homes and professional spaces. To me, art is an inseparable part of life, and life is, in essence, art.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I fell in love with Palm Beach County years ago when my parents had a second home in the Frenchman’s Creek community of Palm Beach Gardens. I’m thrilled to say that I have lived in North Palm Beach for just over two years now and love taking my visiting friends and family to our beaches, restaurants, and cultural events and venues. Some of my favorite restaurants are found in The Square downtown West Palm Beach, in the Jupiter Inlet area, and along PGA Blvd in Palm Beach Gardens. Carol Moon Art Studio is also conveniently located just off the Blvd in the Legacy Place Shops so that’s always a must see. From The Norton Museum in downtown West Palm Beach, to the many other interesting creative spaces, studios, and galleries, Southeast Florida has such a vital creative community, rich in artistic culture. I’m a passionate animal lover, and enjoy the rich history of our area as well, so I also love sharing places like Peanut Island, Flagler Museum, Jupiter Lighthouse, The Breakers Palm Beach, Loggerhead Marine Life Center, and Manatee Lagoon with any and all.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First let me say that I am blessed to have the love and full support of my husband, John. I value his belief in me and willingness to help with whatever I might need in the day-to-day or to take my art career to the next level. He packs, totes, wires and hangs, has great suggestions, listens in my moments of frustrations, helps with my never-ending technological challenges, and celebrates all the wins with me. He’s my personal cheerleader and I would not be where I am without him.
I’m also incredibly grateful to have had the encouragement, support, and mentorship of some truly admirable creatives along the way. Looking back on my journey, I’ve been blessed to be a part of studio communities where I’ve grown, been mentored, and exchanged support and encouragement with some truly talented people. While living in West Michigan I was also afforded the opportunity to participate in the prestigious ArtPrize of Grand Rapids, an annual international competition and cultural event.
Shortly after moving to Franklin TN, I became involved with yet another amazing studio group, mentored by an internationally known artist and friend. My career grew in the greater Nashville area considerably to include regular participation in their Art Crawl scene, as well as many exhibitions and juried shows.
I’m so thrilled to now be living in Southeast Florida. Carol Moon Art Studio is now located within Zero Empty Spaces Studios in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, a creatively diverse artist community that provides an atmosphere of comradery, inspiration, opportunity, and support. I’m a part of local art organizations like Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, and Artists of Palm Beach County, who provide quality support, many exhibition opportunities, local art events, grants and fellowships, opportunities to grow and develop my artistic ability, and meaningful connection with other artists in our area.
