We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Cerenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The Sun Can Fund is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of too much sun exposure, which can cause melanoma skin cancer. We are focused on educating our loved ones and the community on how to safely have fun in the sun. We hope to spread our mission to not only the community but to the world! There’s a common misconception that only light skinned individuals are at risk for skin cancer and that is not the case, melanoma does not discriminate. Our goal isn’t to scare people to hide from the sun but to learn how to have fun in the sun without over exposure.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Sun Can fund is a grass roots foundation. Founded by my mother and myself we are in the beginning stages of fundraising, we are currently getting the word about what we do and have recently sponsored our first event. The beginning stages of any business can be challenging but we are not in this for the short term, the Sun Can fund is our life long mission and we will continue to spread awareness and raise funds for a cure for melanoma.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend visiting for a long walk over the Key Biscayne bridge early in the morning followed by breakfast at Pura Vida in Brickell. I would take them out for a boat day (covered in spf of course) which is the best way to see Miami in all of it’s glory. After a boat day I would suggest happy hour at Smith and Wollensky to watch the sunset. The next day I would do a spa and pool day (more spf) at the Standard hotel in the beach. That week I would make sure they visited the art galleries in Wynwood/the Wynwood Walls and check out the Design District for shopping and lunch at Pastis. I would take them to Coconut Grove for brunch, lunch or dinner since there are many restaurants opening like Bellini or Level 6 in Coconut Grove for a sunset dinner and drinks at Regatta Grove. I would take them to the Biltmore in Coral Gables for a pool day and Bouchon for dinner. I would take them to a show at the Adrienne Arsht center, a Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins and Inter Miami games.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother Carol, who has taught me strength, shown me grace and has always encouraged me to follow my dreams.
