We had the good fortune of connecting with Gonzalo Londoño and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gonzalo, what do you attribute your success to?
We understand that simply because we have been in the media space for years, the world of videography, photography, and all things media is ever-changing. Many businesses view the youth as inexperienced individuals who don’t understand the world just yet. However, we view this as a strength rather than a weakness. As we get older, we tend to judge ourselves more because we believe we understand more about how things should be. Conversely, the youth unapologetically creates. We lose our sense of play as we get older, and the work therefore occasionally suffers as a result. Consider how trends are made and how social content is driven by the youth. Why fight it when they are the pioneers of the media world we consume?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The road here was not easy, and we work daily to overcome challenges we could have never planned for. As three young men fresh out of college, we knew we were at a large disadvantage entering an industry as competitive as ours, especially in Miami, where being young means facing an overwhelming amount of obstacles. It worked in our benefit that each one of us had very unique backgrounds and extensive experience in our fields. When we first came together, it wasn’t just about accomplishing one video; it was an exchange of our creative knowledge to create content we had only dreamed about. The best part is, we know we are only scratching the surface of what is possible for us. We’ve learned that our partnership has to be treated almost like a relationship. In a sense, we’re basically dating each other. We see each other every day, we share where the other stands emotionally for that day, and we see how we can pick each other up when needed. Bringing together three distinct personalities and ensuring 100% fluidity is challenging, but we are constantly adjusting. We’ve especially learned the power of networking and maintaining those relationships. An important and effective way of doing this is by doing things for others and expecting nothing in return. The minute self-motivation is at the core of your actions, you diminish the legitimacy of those relationships.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It mostly depends on the friend. If they’re looking for something casual and a little historical, I like taking them to Coral Gables and getting some food from some of my favorite local Colombian spots. If they’re a little more artsy, I’ll take them to Wynwood to see the Wynwood Walls and maybe grab a drink at 1800-Lucky. Lastly, if I want to show them a good food spot and nightlife, I’d take them to Gekko for the food and LIV after. Everyone at the Groot properties is very kind and always treats me well. Working there has made it feel almost like a second home, and that’s something I’d love to share with friends who may not be familiar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Emrgent Media would not exist without my two business partners, Alex Amare and Matthew Liebman. These two are the ones who keep this machine moving. We all serve our own purpose to create work we are excited to put out into the world. Additionally, the whole Emrgent team has been with us for so long: Gabby, Ricky, Isa, Jota, Chase, and Kevin. Omar Delgado and Christina Insua, my high school journalism moderators, have prepared me with the tools I need to be where I’m at in today’s creative world. Omar pushed me to be the best creative version of myself. He taught me by always pushing the envelope of what I thought was possible in life and for myself. Christina taught me that we are all storytellers. She taught me what it means to be a true journalist and how to get to the root of the narrative and best communicate that. Betty Vinson and Jacky Raful believed in me when I thought I had no other options left for my future and gave me an opportunity I am working to repay to this day. I am forever indebted to them. My Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, for their unwavering love and making my life technicolor. They have supported me in ways I can’t even fathom and shown me unwavering belief in my dreams. Lastly, but certainly not least, I want to thank all the clients that have worked with us consistently and took a chance on three young men trying to make it in such a competitive industry: LIV Miami – specifically Caroline Wright, Florida Realtors Association – specifically Ashton Musgrove and Genessa Casanova, DAER, Nick Wucher at Yifno, Royal Caribbean – specifically the Social Team and especially Chad Cadelina, and Strawberry Moon – the entire staff.
