We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Nuñez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
As I’ve progressed through my art and worked with all kinds of people, I’ve realized that I thrive on telling stories about humanity. I aim to show that each of us has our own tale to tell, and that empathy can be found when we look beyond appearances. By the end of my career, I aspire to have grown in storytelling through film, directing, and making an impact on the people who have watched my films, prompting them to think or undergo a shift in perspective.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
A huge aspect of my work is authenticity. Whether it’s making my own films or working with others to bring their vision to life, I want to showcase the authentic feeling each message brings to the story. It wasn’t easy to get to the point I am now with my art and it still is a learning experience every step of the way. There’s a lot of looking at my work and only seeing the imperfections but over time I’ve come to take those criticisms into consideration and (hopefully!) improve on each project.
The process of creating art to me can feel very messy at times. I think it’s been a challenge I constantly face. There is tons of ideas, doubts, aspirations, expectations and trying to clear my mind to just focus on the message can be an immense task all on its own. But amidst the chaos of creation, there’s a certain magic in seeing those ideas take shape, in overcoming doubts, and in surpassing expectations. It’s a journey of self-discovery and growth, where each frame I capture brings me closer to understanding both myself and the world around me. And in the end, it’s this messy, challenging process that makes the final outcome all the more rewarding.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami has so much to offer but definitely the spots I’d want to for a great time would be Virginia Key Beach. I would go there often as a kid and is still a small, cozy beach I enjoy visiting. If you haven’t been to Wynwood, it’s definitely a must. All of the buildings are painted by artists with incredible talent. It’s got colorful walls, art, shops and good places to eat. A day at the Everglades would be in the books. The subtropical grasslands with beautiful wildlife and sunsets are stunning. It’s such a contrast from mountains and forests we see in some states. And my go to food spot is Diced, they’ve got fresh ingredients and good food. I go there all the time and it never misses.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my parents for always supporting me through thick and thin, for always supporting the decisions I make. To my sister, for being an incredible role model to be yourself no matter who’s watching and to my beloved for helping me flourish.
