We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Bauman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
During COVID I was working from home and pregnant. Bored and scared like the rest of the world. I needed an activity that would keep my mind calm – and I decided to learn how to embroider. I watched YouTube videos, made a few pieces with no experience, and posted to social media. My DM’s instantly flooded and I realized that I had something here. Everyone loves a personalized project and the requests kept coming. I decided to build a simple website that had a few options for people to purchase, and that’s how BRB, Embroidery was born. After having my daughter, I went back to work full time in office. My embroidery was put to a pause and I was focused on being a new mom trying to juggle work life balance. Shortly later, my husband and I decided to leave New York City and move to Miami. I left my full time job behind and while getting settled, a friend of mine asked if I could make a swaddle for her baby being born shortly after. Once he arrived, I posted the photos to instagram, and lo and behold… the DM’s started up again. I created a Business Instagram profile, revamped my website, and now – it’s officially my full time job!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hand Embroidery is truly an art form that requires a lot of patience. I had a ton of trial and error, complications, success stories, and fails. This venture has not been a simple one – a one woman show was incredibly difficult to maintain. I struggled with the idea of handing off projects or any piece of this business for that matter. I’m very proud of how I’ve handled slowly expanding and adding an employee – who is an absolute rockstar. The two of us together are able to accomplish different types of projects and make sure our orders are fulfilled in time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a great question. I love Miami but one of my favorite little hotels is further north in Palm Beach. I would bring them to The Colony hotel which not only matches my personality, it matches my brand too. Eclectic, cool, laid back, and special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my close friends who pushed me to create a Business Instagram. I was on a bachelorette party and my projects became a topic of conversation. I was hesitant to start one because I thought it would take a lot of effort to run. They convinced me that all I needed to do was snap a photo after I finished a piece before it gets sent out to its rightful owner. Well, they were right! Social Media has brought my brand incredible awareness and I am thankful to them for nudging me in the right direction! I also have to thank my husband who has been my “shipping department” ever since things took off. He saw me becoming overwhelmed and stepped up to make sure each package is properly secured and sent off to who it belongs to.
