Meet Shelby Frederick | Author | Coach | Trainer | Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Frederick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Warren, a small city in northeast Ohio known for its manufacturing industries, mom-and-pop eateries, sports, and strong community spirit. Growing up in this all-around family-oriented environment, the church played a central role in my upbringing, reinforcing these values of togetherness and support.
As the eldest of three siblings, I was fortunate to be part of a close-knit family where encouragement and ambition were nurtured from an early age. One of my life’s guiding principles comes from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” This verse not only shaped my childhood but has also continued to influence me throughout my life. Alongside this spiritual foundation, the unwavering support from my parents and grandparents was crucial in developing my resilience and determination.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Shelby Frederick is a distinguished speaker, author, coach, and trainer, celebrated for her impactful work in mental health, particularly in emotional wellness, purposeful leadership, and spiritual growth. Through her various enterprises, Shelby’s dynamic blend of professional acumen and deep spiritual insights serves as a beacon for those striving to master the complexities of both personal and professional realms with wisdom and grace. I am particularly passionate about promoting healing and wholeness across the eight dimensions of wellness.
One of the pivotal experiences in my personal development was participating in the ASCEND Mentorship program under Dr. Yolanda Powell. This mentorship was instrumental in helping me confront and integrate the fragmented aspects of my life, ultimately revealing the person I was destined to become. Navigating through layers of past trauma and rejection was challenging, yet essential for shaping the person you see today.
My journey has been bolstered by an unwavering faith in God and a strong support network that have both nurtured my transformation into the resilient individual I am now. On a professional level, I remain committed to lifelong learning, firmly believing that growth ceases the moment one assumes they have learned all there is to know. Among the vital lessons I’ve embraced is the importance of staying true to one’s God given identity. I am eager to share with the world that triumph awaits on the other side of adversity!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Columbus, Ohio, for a week, we’d dive into a packed itinerary showcasing the city’s best offerings. We’d start with a hearty breakfast at Cracker Barrel (I love pancakes!), followed by a cultural tour at the Columbus Museum of Art and lunch at Flavor 91. The week would include exploring the eclectic Short North Arts District, catching a local sports game, and a day trip to Hocking Hills for hiking. We’d bike along the scenic Scioto Mile, and shop at Easton Town Center. Evenings would feature dinners at spots like Schmidt’s Sausage Haus and Lindey’s, and perhaps a relaxing dinner by the Scioto River.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to take a moment to acknowledge some of the most influential people in my life. First, my father, Dr. Gerald L. Morgan, was my greatest supporter until his passing on September 11, 2022. His encouragement was unwavering. My mother, Dr. Vivian Morgan, has always supported and guided me throughout my life. I also want to express my gratitude to my husband of 32 years, George A. Frederick II, who embodies unconditional love and selflessness every day. And of course, I am incredibly proud of my two adult children, Taylor and Tyler Frederick, who continue to inspire me.
