We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirsten Turk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirsten, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
As someone who has struggled with being consistent in the past, I would that is the most important factor. I start to see success when I’m showing up consistently with my brand whether that’s sharing content on social media or sharing blog posts on my website. Growth always comes when I’m being consistent.
I also believe having a good referral network will take you far!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create and share recipes on social media, write articles for my food blog kirstenturk.com and host a podcast called Good Food, Better Drinks. I share ways to bring people together through good food, better drinks and easy ways to entertain.
My first internship was writing blogs for an interior design and furniture company. I went to Journalism school for advertising and shortly after graduating, I dived into the world of branding and web design. I’ve designed brands and websites for 7 years, and I still do a few here and there. All of this has helped me start and grow my true passion, which is my food and drink blog. I’ve been doing it as a hobby on the side since 2019, but over the last year I’ve been slowly turning it into my full-time career.
There have definitely been challenges, like in 2022 when I was so caught up in other work and personal life that my blog went down, and I had to use the way back machine to get everything back (lesson learned!).
This year, I’ve been working a lot on SEO for my blog and building up my content. My goal for the Summer is to continue to grow my website traffic to 50k sessions per month, so I can apply for Mediavine Food. I’m really excited and hopeful that I will make it there by the end of the summer! I hope to one day have a cookbook on seasonal eating and entertaining full of recipes and ideas that help bring people together.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love living in Tequesta / Jupiter, so this is a fun one! I would have them start by grabbing coffee at Perk Coffee. Maybe check out a yoga class at Village Yoga. Then off to the Jupiter lighthouse to climb the stairs and check out the amazing views. Next, head over to Cato’s bridge to cool off in the intercostal and do some snorkeling. Grab a happy drink at Lucky Shuck, followed by dinner at U-Tiki. Finish the night off with live music at Square Grouper or Ricky Young at Tiki 52.
Some of my other favorite places to eat are Hogsnappers, Blackbird and Lynora’s! Take a cruise down Jupiter Island and stop by blowing rocks at high tide. Search for shark teeth under the Juno Beach pier. Grab a green juice at Golden Juicery. Take your dog to Jupiter dog beach. Rent paddle boards from Blueline. Do a little shopping at Blueline and Ocean Magic. Grab a drink and take in the views at Topside. Go to taco tuesday at Calaveras in Harborside. Take the drive down to Palm Beach for Palm Beach Par 3, followed by Subs at Buccan Sandwich Shop and a little window shopping on Worth Ave. Go out to Jupiter Farms to Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. Rent Kayaks at John D Macarthur. Go on a bike ride at Riverbend park. Take a hike at Jonathan Dickenson. Swim in the ocean and watch all of the kite boarders. Take a surf lesson with Gurfer Lady.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a creative whose had a million and one ideas, my husband is someone who is always behind me supporting my dreams and encouraging me to go for it. I’m also so grateful for my circle of friends, who’ve come to my workshops to support me, shared my videos online and always encourage me to keep going. My friend Samantha Farmer, who has done several photo shoots with me. My mom and dad who literally watch every one of my videos and tell all of their friends. Surrounding yourself with a positive, supportive community is so important. I’m lucky to have people in my life who make me feel like I can actually do this.
