We had the good fortune of connecting with James S. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
That’s a good question. Starting a business isn’t something I’d recommend to anybody unless they’re absolutely 100% committed to make it a success. According to statistics, the vast majority of startups fail within the first 2 years. In fact, I believe it’s almost cliché the way people talk about “starting a business” these days. The amount of grueling work, constant effort, dedication, passion, drive, vision, determination, fortitude, steadfastness, and the capital required usually doesn’t get talked about as much.

I started Track Masters DJ company because DJ and party entertainment was my passion. At an early age, I knew that this was for me. I officially got into DJing at age 16 and then it just snowballed from that point on. I thought to myself . . . Why would I want to work for someone else when I have what it takes to do everything on my own?? . . . That was the logic behind me starting this DJ company. I was essentially cutting out the middleman and going direct to the consumer(s).

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As far as the business is concerned, it’s very straightforward. Track Masters is a professional disc jockey company which provides quality DJ and party entertainment services to its clients. Those clients range everywhere from large nightclubs all the way to smaller private events (and everything in between). We mainly specialize in ‘rhythmic urban and dance music’ such as Hip Hop, Freestyle, Miami BASS, Dancehall, and EDM (electric dance music). We also have a separate division called ‘Mister Tracks’ which handles other forms of musical genres.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t know because there’s so many different kinds of spots. It depends. Sometimes people from outta town simply want to cruise around and take in the sites. I might suggest driving them all over. Places such as Fort Lauderdale beach, Miami Beach, South Miami-Dade, the city of Miami, and Coral Springs are notable locations to check out. Rather than taking them to “touristy” areas, it’s probably better to let them enjoy the natural vibe of Southeast Florida. That’s just me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Right. As a DJ, I was heavily influenced by other great DJs. Tony Touch, Funkmaster Flex, R-Fresh, DJ Skribble, Lazaro Mendez, Felix Sama, Eddie Mix, Ballistic Billy️, Phil Jones, Mohamed Moretta, Jammin Johnny Caride, and Oliver Zogbi just to name a few. I’d say that those guys solidified the direction I wanted to go with my style(s) of DJing. With Tony Touch, Funkmaster Flex, and R-Fresh . . . I listened a lot to their mixtapes. With Lazaro Mendez, Felix Sama, Eddie Mix, Ballistic Billy️, Phil Jones, Mohamed Moretta, Jammin Johnny Caride, and Oliver Zogbi . . . I listened to their mix shows over the radio and was even lucky enough to watch some of them work right in front of my eyes. DJ Skribble inspired me because I saw him DJing during the summer on MTV in the mid 90s.
