We had the good fortune of connecting with Yanelly Loor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yanelly, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by living things- Nature and all the wonderful things we can always discover. I have to be by animals and nature. It is what gives me the drive to try to do better, to help as much as I can. Something has simple as creating a garden so our pollinators have a safe place inspires me to think outside the box. My mind is always cranking with solutions for people especially pet parents. Inspired by love, what I want for my family and the children in our family. My pets are my children so there is nothing else better in life for me than anything related to pets. I am inspired to help others, to help their pets and to give back as much as possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting into my profession was easy. It was the upkeep of it that took work. That work ethic helped me to get to where I am and where I want to be.
The only thing I know is pets. I always wanted to be a veterinarian but the cards played out differently and I appreciate the journey I am on.
I started as a veterinarian assistant when I was 16 years old. Now, at 43 years old, I feel I have accomplished a lot in life but I know I am not done.
I was able to manage practices (both corporate and privately owned), have been able to assist in surgeries, work with dermatology and dentistry, general practice, Inventory control, DEA compliance, upkeep of machines (blood machines, anesthesia machines).. etc. The most important part of it all was the health of the patient. I always would train that the number one priority was the patient, then comes every one else.
It did not come easy, the surgeries that did not have a happy outcome, the euthanasia cases, the cases where the patient was too ill to be saved. That part, you will never be prepared for until you go through it. Even after years, I would still get choked up because that process of end of life is never easy. The only thing you can do is be professional and give the patient the dignity until the end to surround them with love. To be there for their family is what makes you keep a brave face but behind the scenes, the technicians and veterinarians go through a lot.
With all of this, I opened up my pet sitting company called Barks and Whistles ™ and began that in 1999. I got it trademarked in 2021 and this has been my baby from conception to present. I have since opened up a store called From the Heart to the Paws. I also opened two other businesses called Pawsitive Vibes Miami and Paws Here Pet Travel. Many ideas in my head and many things to come :0)
My brand and story?
Presented with Love always. Dedicated, grateful and thankful for the continued support we receive.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Caja Caliente!! This food is a beautiful fusion of Cuban and Mexican food combined. It is amazing!

I love being in Nature so places to go would be Matheson Hammocks Park, Metro Zoo, Coconut Grove, if they can go to the Florida Keys would recommend it. Coral Gables area is another popular area like Wynwood.

We have so much amazing food options!

Bayside Miami also is a cool spot to visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband deserves the first shoutout. We have been together for 22 years and married for almost 16 years. His love has allowed me to pet sit inside our home, to have multiple dogs at at a time and to have to reschedule or plan our outings based on their schedule.
His love and support means the world to me. It gives me the energy to work hard every day so we can enjoy our down time together to the fullest. I love my Leo the Lion.

The second dedication is to all the pets I have ever had the pleasure of caring for. For letting me hug them and kiss them and cuddle them :0) Medicate them, bathe them, sedate them, everything.
They trusted me unconditionally and I carry that in my heart every day.

And to my fur babies, Angels and present- Will forever be obsessed with all your furry paws.
