We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonney Goldstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bonney, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I began painting after I fell in love with studying art history. My teacher suggested that since I love the history of art I might like painting myself. I bought myself 100$ worth of art supplies from the Brooklyn museum store-went to the beach and set up an easel and began painting the ocean. Five hours later; with a third degree sunburn- I went home and declared our family basement was now my studio. That was in 1968 and I haven’t stopped painting since then.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was fortunate enough to find a school that needed a teacher and I began teaching which gave me enough time to learn to paint on my own. Eventually I took my art history love and set myself up as an independent art advisor to companies looking to purchase art for their offices. I then got invited to show my own work at local art fairs and eventually got enough of my own work sold to consider myself an artist.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fortunately Ive lived in 8 states and two countries so new museums and galleries were always available to me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thanks to my family and the wonderful teacher I had I’ve always had my own place to work. I went on to study at the Arts Students League in New York.which offered inexpensive lessons in the evenings.
