Meet Giselle Pinto | Executive Pastry Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Giselle Pinto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Giselle, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind success, is to create your own definition of it; Success can be defined and segmented in many ways: monetarily, brand recognition, digital media activity and even balance between family/friends and Work. My definition was mine, from the very beginning. And although I already had a very successful career in advertising, it wasn’t until I opened my business, that things changed completely and I really felt “I made it!”. In fact, I remember driving my foodtruck before being remodeled, and I felt the most amazing feeling of success. Nor have I ever felt anything similar getting advertising campaigns approved, reaching the great job with the great account; this feeling was new to me and it was a sense of accomplishment. I never asked anyone about my concept, about the menu, or the plan -although always received unrequested advise. Sugar Yummy Mama had to be my own blame if it failed, or my own pride if it succeeded. I was determined to follow my plan and readjust as things evolved. After going to Johnson & Wales, I became extremely strict in the kitchen and got my license, maintaining high standards that validated my inspiration, and that was key for me to succeed. So I do feel SYM is the biggest achievement of my life and I’m very proud of me, for making the right decision and or for making mistakes. Bottom line, yes, I’m extremely successful and so is my brand 🙌🏼😊

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a Pastry chef requires creativity in many ways. Also, being so structured about following measurements allowed me to stick to a plan consistently and with determination. Additionally, having a background based in advertising and marketing put me in great advantage on how to handle the brand and how to secure the key elements for its success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami is such a fun town, but among my key places would be Wynwood where I was from the very beginning and the dusty streets. Art Basel, restaurants such as Kyu, Sugar Cane or Alter, would make my day for long working journeys. Miami beach in general is fantastic but i like the south pointe area where you can have a great wine at the terrace of Call me Gaby, or eat my FAVE stone crabs across the street at Joe’s Stone Crabs. But in general anything fun even taking my nephew to the Enchanted forest during Christmas, taking my dad to his favorite place Versalles, or having an amazing frita cubana at El Rey de Las Fritas, having the amazing croquetas at Islas Canarias or even Delicias de Espana for the best tortilla and boquerones (not all together necessarily ).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Undoubtedly, the support from my family is first. They all supported me in many ways. My parents who put me through school for both careers and promoting education to the max. Pushing me to get prepared and be the best on my own standards, and also financial help. Also, my sister and her family who put financial investment in me and trusted my plan. Along the career many ppl I found on my way that were evangelists of my concept and supported me all the way such as Chef Lorena Garcia who coached me and manage to get me in tv for very successful baking shows.
