We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ian, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Do it yourself. If you’re not willing to do what needs to be done then it’s hard for others to want to help you. I have a handful of people that play a huge part in my life. One of the main reasons they are willing to help is that they see that I’m willing to put the work in. The more you do things rather than just talk about them, the more you will attract people who are willing to take action with you. In the end, a team effort is better than a solo effort. Do it yourself and your team will naturally start to build.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been making music for 15 years now. What sets me apart is in the music, I can show you better than I can tell you. Once you listen to any of my solo or collaborative works, you’ll understand. I am most proud of the work and dreams that I’ve helped others accomplish and achieve. One day I hope to get the love and recognition for those works, but regardless of that, I am proud to have done so much behind the scenes without expecting anything in return. Thank you to the ones who put the effort in as well, the best part about collaborating is when the other parties are equally as invested in the project as you are. I can’t say that this journey has been easy but it has been beautiful. A lot of ups and downs along the way; what’s sunshine without rain though? It’s important to understand the value of the journey, the mistakes you make and the failures you run into are all preparation for your future success. Appreciate every moment. If there’s anything I want people to get from my story, it’s that life goes by fast, be selfless and help others, but remember to take care of yourself too. When your cup is full you can pour a lot more out than when it’s near empty.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t really go out much haha, but I would definitely hit a few taco spots and pizza spots, the studio, the beach, and either downtown Delray or Wynwood for a night out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all I want to thank God for allowing me to do what I do. I want to thank my grandmother Marie for everything she’s done for me and said to me, she’s my heart. I want to thank my mom for raising me on her own and always being there for me. I also want to thank my brothers Brian Forte, LimitlessJoe, Skill Williams, Corwin aka C Weezy, Ikabod, that boy Eric, Braxton and Onias for all the support throughout the years. Love to all the other people I’m forgetting to mention right now!
