We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Rodriguez Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I am actually terrified of taking risks because of how much of a sucker I am for the safety of a routine! But the reality is that if you don’t take risks you will NEVER grow in anything you’re passionate about. Risk-taking is more normal than you think. Even getting in the car and driving to work is a risk because something can happen that is out of your control. So risk-taking must be done in your career endeavors, a risk may result in failure but it may also result in a big win. If you go into it with a positive mindset and faith, you will always win. Taking a risk is the reason why I have been my own boss for 4 year. The day i decided to leave my 9-5 and begin my business journey was so scary but I do not regret not one second of it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Skinfluence Miami = Me. It’s an esthetic business where we specialize in transformative skin treatments while still providing a luxurious relaxing experience. When the world stopped during Covid I decide to open a business. It was very ambitious but like they say YOLO. It definitely was not easy because there was so much uncertainty in creating something not knowing that it will succeed or not. Although our biggest obstacle was finding clients, I was able to do so through social media. I put my mind into content creation and as my platform grew, so did my client book. Boy was I scared every step of the way, but pushing through slow days, extremely busy days, working 7 days a week and on top of that content creation was worth it forsure. I now reap the fruit of my labor. A lesson I will tell the readers and/or people thinking about opening a business is to be ready for what it actually takes mentally and physically. A business is truly like having a child, no matter how much you don’t want to, you still have to get up and keep going, just like a parent to their kids. But although you’re working hard have moments to live your life and indulge in the things you love, this will keep you and your business healthy. What I want the world to know through my brand and story is that truly anything is possible if first you have faith and second you act on your dreams. There’s beauty in loving yourself and putting yourself first. When you do this everything else in your life will flourish. Since my business is skin, prioritize your self so that your skin will soon thank you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a Miami Girl through and through, but real miami not just downtown, Miami Beach and brickell. If my bestie was here for a week forsure we will hangout at the beach, I love Hallandale beach because it’s cleaner, there’s less people and it’s a vibe. There’s a lot of observatories in south Florida , so id take them to see butterflies lol. Miami is filled with restaurants so needless to say we will be eating good. Right now for breakfast forsure I’ll take my bestie to Florentine in Hollywood, omg it’s a middle eastern bakery that is so bomb. I’m not really a lunch girly so id let her pick. For dinner Mandolin, which in my opinion is one of the best restaurants in miami. So so so good. Miami is definitely more of a club, dinner or museum place which I like but I’m stuck always trying to figure out what to do. So in that case I’d take my bestie on a road trip and go to nearby places in south Florida to experience different foods, areas and people.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, I owe it all to God Elohim. God is the reason for everything I have accomplished and for what I will accomplish in the future. Also of course my family for their endless support, without them helping me with funding, emotional support and even a starting location, there would be no Skinfluence Miami. My husband who has been here since the very beginning, he knows what he’s done for me, thank you baby. Honorable mentions of course are Dermatologists I’ve worked with and Skincare books. Guys please continue your education and read in what you specialize in, it’s a game changer and separates you from others!
