We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Rosenblum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marina, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I have always been someone who gives my very best to any task, I think when you are doing your best it shows. It doesn’t always lead immediately to success but it doesn’t go unnoticed. I always thought if I worked hard and learned everything I could learn, I would succeed. I don’t think you can fail when you work with intention. Through all of the ups and downs, giving my best to everything that came my way, has helped me succeed.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started working for a chiropractor as a temporary employee while someone was out on maternity leave, the office was in Hialeah so I had to learn fluent Spanish quickly to be able to speak to most of our patients. I already spoke some Spanish but would not consider myself fluent or confident in speaking it. My first time translating for the doctor I started crying, I was nervous to make a mistake and my body’s reaction was to cry uncontrollably! That was a guiding moment, I learned that as nervous as I was, and as many mistakes as I may have to make, I had to do the job. Every time I wouldn’t know a word during a translation, I would use my hands to explain what I was trying to convey, once someone said the word, I would repeat it in my head until I never forgot it and write it down in my notebook. I took that approach with me throughout my career in everything I did, I always made it a point to never make the same mistake twice. I would drill any mistake I made into my head as if my life depended on it. I took notes on everything and would write down my mistakes. I still have my notebook from my prior jobs. I always say “work with intention”, I genuinely feel it has always helped me progress. I use to clean the doctors office after work for extra money and even when it came down to scrubbing the toilets, I always wanted it to be the cleanest toilet at any doctors office! I had 4 jobs at one point to make ends meet, working 6am until 11pm daily. I don’t think you can fail when you are always allowing yourself a new opportunity, no matter what it may be. Change will always be uncomfortable, find comfort in the uncomfortable.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am addicted to going out and trying new food places so this is very hard for me to pick! Of course if you want somewhere to hangout with amazing food, I have to say you must go to Beyond Billiards in Davie, FL! With that said, my husband and I are obsessed with a little Sushi spot in Davie FL called Imasa. The owner knows everyone that walks through the door! I can’t recommend Imasa enough. We also love The Katherine in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It’s quaint and the food is impeccable. If you are in the mood for Japanese BBQ, I highly recommend Gyu-Kaku in Miami, FL! They have great service and great food. The best margaritas are at El Camino in Fort Lauderdale, my mouth waters thinking about the passion fruit margarita. When we are craving Italian, we go to Casa D’Angelo in Aventura, FL. They have amazing espresso martini’s and home-made pasta.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many moving parts when it comes to giving thanks to someone or a group of people for being successful, it really takes a village. The first people I would thank are my parents, they instilled a work ethic in me that is undeniably fierce. I watched them hustle every day, including weekends, to provide us a life here in America. I was given a lot of opportunities throughout my career, consistently being promoted which gave me a sense to always strive for more so I would love to shoutout my old boss Steve and Wendy! They definitely saw the best in me, even through my errors and mistakes. For the opportunity I have today as an owner of Beyond Billiards, I absolutely have to thank my second parents, the prior owners of Beyond Billiards Tom & Susan. They gave me something I could never have imagined, my childhood hangout spot! My closest friends are prior coworkers, I love them endlessly and going through life 8 hours a day, 5 days a week at an office together really bonds you!
