We had the good fortune of connecting with María Bomio Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi María, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to start Resiliencia, I was driven by my passion for jewelry and the desire to create something meaningful. After the passing of my son, I needed a way to cope with the immense grief and find purpose. Creating jewelry became part of my healing process, a way to channel my emotions and turn them into something beautiful, while also addressing my personal needs for emotional resilience and independence.
The name Resiliencia reflects the very concept of resilience—the ability to adapt and move forward. It became a way to honor my son’s memory, and with each piece I design, I aim to convey a message of strength, hope, and overcoming challenges
My business is not just about making jewelry; it’s about offering something inspiring to those who wear it.
That’s why we create unique, handmade jewelry with love and care, using 950 sterling silver and semi-precious stones like onyx, pink opal, rose quartz, chrysocolla, lapis lazuli, and many more, each with its own unique properties.
What should our readers know about your business?
Resilience is not just a jewelry business; it’s a reflection of my journey and the strength that comes from overcoming personal challenges. What sets us apart is our focus on creating unique, handmade pieces that embody a sense of love, healing, and resilience. Each item is crafted with care, using semi-precious stones like onyx, pink opal, rose quartz, chrysocolla, and lapis lazuli, each chosen for their unique properties and significance.
I am most proud of the emotional connection that our jewelry fosters. Each piece tells a story, and I love hearing how customers resonate with them and find personal meaning in the designs. I started this business as a way to honor my son’s memory, and seeing how it has transformed into something that inspires others is incredibly fulfilling.
Getting to where I am today has been a journey filled with both challenges and triumphs. It was not easy, especially navigating the complexities of starting a business while processing my grief. However, I learned to lean on my support system—my family, friends, and community—who encouraged me to persevere.
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is the value of resilience itself. There will always be obstacles, but it’s how we respond to them that defines our path. I’ve also learned the significance of authenticity; staying true to my story and vision has resonated deeply with others and helped build a loyal customer base.
What I want the world to know about Resilience is that it represents hope, strength, and the beauty that can arise from pain. Each piece of jewelry is crafted not only as a fashion statement but also as a reminder of our inner strength and the ability to rise above challenges. I hope that through my creations, I can inspire others to embrace their journeys and find their own resilience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend from Uruguay visited, I’d love to showcase all the wonderful experiences Florida has to offer. Here’s how I would plan the week:
Start with lunch at a beachside restaurant, savoring fresh seafood, followed by a relaxing day at one of Florida’s stunning beaches. End the day with dinner at a restaurant celebrating local and international cuisine.
Day 2:
Enjoy breakfast at a trendy café before visiting the Van Gogh Museum or a local gallery. For lunch, explore a restaurant with diverse cultural offerings. Spend the afternoon shopping at unique boutiques, then enjoy dinner featuring dishes from another culture.
Day 3:
After a classic diner breakfast, tackle an escape room challenge. Have lunch at a local café, then unwind at the beach or a park. Conclude the day with dinner at a lively restaurant with live music.
Day 4:
Kick off the day with brunch, then shop at malls and outlets for great deals. Lunch at a food court or nearby restaurant. Enjoy dinner at a restaurant that showcases Florida’s diverse culinary scene.
Day 5:
After a leisurely breakfast, indulge in a spa day or yoga class. Have lunch at a health-conscious café, then spend the afternoon catching up at a cozy café over coffee. End the day with dinner at a unique restaurant.
Day 6:
Enjoy breakfast featuring local specialties before visiting an aquarium or botanical garden. Try a local eatery for lunch, then relax at the beach or park. Dinner should be at a seafood or farm-to-table restaurant.
Day 7:
Finish your trip with a farewell breakfast at a popular spot and take a last stroll along the beach or visit any remaining attractions before heading home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, especially my husband, René, and my children, Jazmín, Antonella, and Thiago. Their love and support have been invaluable on this journey. My son’s memory is the heart and soul behind Resilience , and I carry him with me in everything I do.
I also want to recognize my sister, who has always been there for me, and my lifelong friend, Vivi, who has been a constant source of encouragement and strength. They, along with my close friends and loved ones, have helped me navigate the toughest moments of grief, inspiring me to keep going and turn pain into something beautiful.
Additionally, I owe a lot to the community of artists and entrepreneurs who have inspired me and shown me the strength that comes from resilience and creativity. They have been an important part of my story, and I am grateful for the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Their passion and dedication motivate me to continue growing as both a person and a business owner.
