We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelina Granitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I graduated college in 2018 at Nova Southeastern University with a Bachelor of Arts and minor in business/entrepreneurship, My initial goal was to continue teaching dance to make enough money to move to L.A or New York to further my dance career. As I got more into teaching, I was being hired right and left for several styles and at many hours. I found myself engaging with at-least 50-100 students a week at several studios. I was doing this all while being on tour assisting known choreographers/teachers at a dance convention at the same time… I realized I was stretching myself too thin but knew I wanted to continue to teach dance for I liked sharing and being a positive influence on students. As I thought more, the best choice for me, was to create a space where I can train students in a pre professional program under one roof. I wanted to prioritize educating them on everything I have learned in the industry, along with providing a community for the student to be a part of. I also had felt at the time, that there was something missing from the dance community and I wanted to provide a competitive and non competitive program for students that would focus on commercial styles, being versatile and preparing them on his or her future dance career. Since Industry Dance has opened in 2019, I am happy of how far along the studio has come. We have had many dancers touring as on stage assistants at conventions, several students signed at talent agencies, students booking dance related jobs and the studio winning several 1st places/overalls at competition. Looking back at it now, none of this would have happened if I didn’t decide to take that risk and Leap of faith.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Dance is known for conveying emotions, ideas and stories all through movement.
For me, Dance was the only form of expressing any emotion or communication for some time. For I had a speech impediment while growing up and couldn’t communicate using my words. The one thing I could do, was dance and I excelled in it so much that it became a huge part of my drive and dream. While I excelled in the arts, academics had proven harder for me. I had to take more time on tests and homework for it was difficult to understand. I worked double the amount of someone who excelled easily in academics. I often found myself defeated throughout middle and highschool due to setbacks from my learning disabilities. All that aside, I was grateful to be able to make it through and prove to myself that setbacks are only opportunities for growth.
To any one who relates or needs to hear this… Not every shoe is going to fit, you just need to find the right one to fit you. The shoe that had fit me, was dance.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend or family member were to visit for the week. The first stop would be city place. It is such a clean, beautiful location to shop at and dine. City place is centered around a tree that lights up the night. It has several events from time to time that includes live music, performances and more.
Close by city place is a Street called clematis. There, I usually stop from time to time at subculture for some delicious coffee. Around that area, are several restaurants/bars and ice cream parlors to check out. One restaurant in particular that I like to frequent is a place called Lynora‘s, which is a great restaurant to dine at. After you’re done dining, most definitely check out lost weekend wpb which introduces an arcade themed bar where you can purchase drinks and play games.
The next stop is Located around city place is the Kravis center for the performing arts. There, you can see several touring musicals as well as dance performances such like the nutcracker.
If you’re feeling a little nature bound and would like an up close view of wildlife I would suggest going to the Palm Beach zoo or Lion Country Safari.
The last stop on this travel itinerary, would of course be the beach. One beach that never seems to miss is the palm beach island beach. It is always filled with the suns rays and good times.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had several teachers along the way who have shaped me into the dancer I am today. Several teachers being from BAK MSOA to Alexander DSOA and even teachers from my previous home studios outside of the art schools. There’s so many to thank. The ones that deserve most of the credit & recognition due to the many sacrifices they have had to make, would be my family. Whether it was watching me in a school/studio dance show, help rhinestone a costume, take me to my weekly classes or travel outside the state for me to experience guest teachers/conventions, they have always done it. Even to this day, they are involved in helping me run the studio and continue to support my current students.
