We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Méndez Varón and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniela, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since childhood, I’ve been deeply immersed in and passionate about the world of music, thanks to my mom, who enrolled me in choir, piano, guitar, and music theory lessons from a young age. Music has always been my driving force and passion, so when it came time to choose a career, I knew without a doubt it had to be in this field. At first, I was torn between pursuing a major in songwriting or conducting, but ultimately, I found my calling in music production.

I have to admit, for a moment, I considered following my family’s career path in radiology because I love helping people, and it seemed like a natural fit. Now, I realize I’m also helping people through music, just in a different way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is my excitement for working with incredibly talented people who are also genuinely kind and supportive. This makes my job a true joy. I also bring a unique strength in understanding both the Anglo and Latin publishing markets, allowing me to create exciting, meaningful collaborations between these two vibrant music worlds.

I got to where I am today by working hard, staying authentic, and constantly bringing new ideas to the table. Building connections with people who believed in me and supported my growth was also key. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that everything happens for a reason, and that being a good person attracts the right people.

I want the world to know that women are making a powerful impact in the music industry, and I’m proud to have this as a part of my story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d plan an unforgettable week around Miami, hitting some of my favorite spots. We’d start in Coconut Grove, where they could take in the beautiful ocean views, parks, and walkable streets, easing into the Miami vibe. For a taste of the city’s vibrant art scene, we’d explore the murals and galleries in Wynwood before heading to Coral Gables to enjoy its wide range of restaurants, from local gems to upscale dining. A day at Key Biscayne would be a must for beach relaxation and stunning natural beauty, and we’d wrap up with a classic Miami experience at South Miami Beach, soaking up the sun and the iconic energy of the area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, my mentors at Big Deal/Hipgnosis Songs have provided me with invaluable guidance and insights that have truly shaped my career. I also want to highlight Brian Malouf, someone I admire deeply for his work and dedication to nurturing young talent—he’s been an incredible mentor to many, including myself. To my current mentors and team at Wide Eyed and M Pub- literally learning from the best in this business. Lastly, my heartfelt thanks go to my parents, whose unwavering support of my dreams and career in music means the world to me.
