Meet Fredric Lean | Gallery owner, artist, and award winning documentary filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fredric Lean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fredric, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Many people see the art world as glamorous, but few realize the intense emotional journey behind each artwork and exhibition. As both a gallery co-founder and a bronze sculptor myself, I’ve learned that building a gallery isn’t just about showcasing art—it’s about nurturing relationships with artists and clients. It requires a deep commitment to storytelling and translating artists’ visions in a way that resonates with diverse audiences. A gallery is also a bridge between cultures and perspectives, especially here in Miami, where we celebrate the convergence of global influences.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey through the arts has been a blend of exploration and expression—spanning documentary filmmaking, comic book creation, sculpture, painting, and now, co-founding Lina Cerrone Gallery. Each medium has taught me something unique, but all share a common purpose: to tell stories that resonate. What sets me apart is this diverse background and a commitment to creating art that sparks dialogue and introspection. My bronze sculptures, like ‘Parenthese of Life,’ and “Elephant’s Whisper” encapsulate the idea that life unfolds in chapters, each one shaped by people, experiences, and lessons.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to the people, moments, and lessons that have shaped each chapter of my journey, much like the chapters in my bronze sculpture ‘Parenthese of Life.’ Life is a series of parentheses—each person, each situation bringing new insights. My mother, who co-founded Lina Cerrone Gallery with me, has been a constant source of support and resilience.
I’m also grateful to the artists we represent. Each of them has trusted us to share their stories and has, in turn, taught me so much about vulnerability, courage, and the power of art to connect people from different walks of life. Their work continues to inspire my own sculptures and reminds me daily of why I’m in this industry.
and lastly, to ‘The Art Spirit’ by Robert Henri, a book that reinforces the value of dedication in art and life, and many other books on life, philosophy and spirituality.
Each chapter, every influence, every person I met deserves credit for where I am today.
