We had the good fortune of connecting with Cailey Weaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cailey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My future career was always a cause for anxiety, as it is for any young person looking to make their mark on the world. It’s the choice between financial stability, benefits, and the potential for stunted creativity, or to take the risk of exploring your true passions. I feel like a lot of people fight this and go the stable route. I, too, tried to go that route. However, after looking deeper, I realized that the path of “stable job and regular income” isn’t always what it seems. You’re still fighting to stay employed, it’s just doing something you don’t actually enjoy. So this is why I took the leap in pursuing Figure Skating Coaching and Music as my main career paths. They are both things I love from the bottom of my heart, and they both come with their own strain and stressors. However, I can proudly say when I’m in the middle of performing an original song on Las Olas, or helping a child achieve an element they’ve been working on forever, that I truly love what I do. Those stressors, the lack of stability; they become worth it when your life has fulfillment and a sense of purpose.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Back in 2023 I suffered from a severely herniated disk in my neck that needed immediate surgery. At the time, I was in a PhD program for neuroscience and suddenly became physically unable to do the work I needed to do. Instead of feeling a failure, I decided to take some time to pursue my creative passions and turn them into careers.
I became a Full Time Figure Skating Coach and began professionally singing acoustic gigs at businesses around south Florida. I became an Open Mic Host at Vice City Kava in Miami, and integrated myself into the Miami Music Community.
When I first started these endeavors, I was terrified. I had no idea how I would live and support myself. However, about a month in, I realized that this was something I could make work. With my ability to talk to people, and my passion for developing a program for young athletes that fostered not only good skaters, but good humans, I began to build a team of young skaters looking to reach for the stars. I created a community, and over the past year have watched each and every one of these children thrive and progress. Those who were once beginners are now on the brink of becoming full fledged Figure Skaters, and those who originally felt lost, now have a direction, goals, and dreams.
On the music side of things, I still struggle to create my own music and to put things out to the world. 2025 is the year where I truly want to push myself and push my creative limits. Now that I am beginning to establish myself, I truly want to make a name and make some phenomenal music with the people that inspire me.
This is an ever changing journey. It’s almost never easy. However, the joy I receive from knowing that I make a difference, the joy I feel making a child fall in love with skating or helping someone remember their past with a song they haven’t heard in years: well that makes it worth it. I think that’s what I always remind myself whenever I double think, or whenever there’s a rough couple of weeks. The alternative is to stifle these passions and tuck them away, and well, that doesn’t sound very good to me at all.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Who are the people I have to thank for where I am today?
My Family: my mom and dad for raising me, for financing a childhood full of figure skating and extracurriculars, for driving me to Ice Rinks, and letting me pursue pretty much whatever I wanted. For pushing me to succeed academically, and in sports, and as a human being, and to never let the desire for success cloud my ability to be a good person.
My Fiance, Best Friend, and Coaching Partner: For always supporting my endeavors; coming to every gig, coaching with me every day at the rink, putting in extra work even when not getting paid (just to spend time with me). For always being the voice I need to hear on tough days when I “just want to quit and go work in an office”, and reminding me why I do what I do, even when it isn’t the easiest path.
My Coaches: For each giving me a part of yourselves. For teaching me to skate, and how to behave. For pushing me to work hard, to be tough, and to be kind. Thank you for making me the coach and skater I am.
The Miami Music Community: I’ve spent my life looking for a place to belong, and here, I finally feel accepted, valued, and seen. Thank you to my friends in the Miami Music Community for welcoming me, helping me grow as an artist, and being genuine friends who lift me up in all the ways I need.
