We had the good fortune of connecting with Xavier Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xavier, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting the Caribbean Fashion Collective (CFC) was driven by a desire to create a platform that celebrates diversity, nurtures creativity, and fosters collaboration within the fashion industry. I wanted to offer emerging designers, especially those with Caribbean roots or unique cultural perspectives, an opportunity to showcase their talents on a global stage.

Having worked as a model and show producer, I noticed gaps in inclusivity and the representation of diverse voices in fashion. CFC was born out of the ambition to address these gaps by empowering designers to share their stories and creations in a supportive, innovative environment.

It was also essential to build a space where designers could grow their global presence, access new markets, and collaborate with industry professionals. By focusing on diversity and inclusivity while highlighting the vibrant culture of the Caribbean and beyond, CFC aims to inspire the next generation of designers and elevate fashion’s creative potential.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is rooted in storytelling, collaboration, and the celebration of diversity. As the founder of the Caribbean Fashion Collective (CFC), my passion lies in creating spaces where emerging designers can showcase their unique perspectives and cultural heritage on a global stage. What sets my work apart is a deep commitment to inclusivity and empowerment—not just for Caribbean creatives but for anyone whose voice deserves to be heard in fashion.

What I’m most proud of is seeing designers thrive because of the platform CFC provides. Watching their collections come to life on the runway and knowing that I played a role in amplifying their creativity is deeply fulfilling. One of the most exciting moments was producing the Negris Lebrum SS25 show during New York Fashion Week, a testament to how far we’ve come as a team and as a brand.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Transitioning from modeling in Jamaica to working as a producer and casting director in the U.S. required persistence and resilience. There were moments of doubt and challenges in navigating an industry that often felt closed off. But I overcame them by focusing on relationships—mentors, collaborators, and a supportive team helped me stay grounded and motivated.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned are to stay adaptable, embrace collaboration, and never lose sight of your vision. Success isn’t a solo journey; it’s about lifting others as you climb and creating opportunities for those who come after you.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that Caribbean Fashion Collective is more than just a fashion initiative; it’s a movement. We aim to empower designers, celebrate cultural richness, and build a global community that values creativity, diversity, and innovation. My journey has been one of growth, and I’m excited to continue paving the way for the next generation of fashion visionaries.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to several individuals and organizations who have shaped my journey. First, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to EMG Models, the agency that helped launch my career and opened doors to opportunities I never imagined possible. Their guidance and belief in me as both a model and a professional have been invaluable.

I also want to recognize my incredible team at the Caribbean Fashion Collective, especially Norka Vasquez and Stewella Daville, whose passion and dedication have made CFC a reality. Their collaborative spirit and unwavering support have been instrumental in bringing our vision to life.

Additionally, the designers, mentors, and creatives I’ve had the privilege of working with—such as Negris Lebrum —deserve immense credit for inspiring me with their talent and work ethic. Lastly, I have to acknowledge my roots in Jamaica, which instilled in me a love for creativity, resilience, and community. These influences have all played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—I wouldn’t be here without you!
