We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Carrasquillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business stemmed from a mix of personal experiences, passion, and a clear need I saw in the community. For me, Let Leona Roar Inc. was born out of my journey as a mother to a medically complex child. Navigating the challenges of inclusion and accessibility firsthand ignited a desire to create a space where those values are not only discussed but actively supported.

I wanted to channel my advocacy into something tangible—something that could spark change for others facing similar barriers. Founding the nonprofit allowed me to combine my skills, education, and life experience to build a mission-driven organization that truly matters to me.

It wasn’t just about starting a business but about creating something with a purpose: to promote inclusion, amplify diverse voices, and provide resources for families at no cost. The process was both empowering and humbling, and it’s deeply rewarding to see the impact unfold through our projects and events.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has been shaped by a combination of education, professional experience, and a deep personal connection to the work I do. I’ve spent over six years in social services and public service. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people on both a professional and personal level—building trust while advocating for meaningful change.

What I’m most proud of is launching Let Leona Roar Inc., my nonprofit that promotes inclusion and accessibility. This organization combines my background in criminal justice, social services, and advocacy into something impactful. What excites me is knowing that every event, every program, and every conversation is contributing to a more inclusive community where everyone feels valued.

Getting here wasn’t easy. The challenges started early, from navigating a complex pregnancy to becoming a new mom to a medically complex child. Balancing motherhood, a career, and personal growth felt overwhelming at times. But I overcame these obstacles by focusing on what I could control—educating myself, building a strong support system, and taking things one step at a time.

Through it all, I’ve learned:
1. Resilience is key. Challenges are inevitable, but they’re also opportunities to grow.
2. Collaboration is powerful. Surrounding myself with people and organizations that share similar values has been transformative.
3. Authenticity matters. Being open about my story has created genuine connections and inspired others to share theirs.

What I want the world to know about my story is that inclusion isn’t just a concept—it’s a commitment to making spaces accessible for everyone. My nonprofit isn’t just about advocacy; it’s about creating real change. Let Leona Roar Inc. is the voice for those who feel unseen and unheard, and it’s a reminder that our differences make us stronger.

Through this journey, I hope to inspire others—especially mothers, caregivers, and advocates—to believe in their vision, embrace their uniqueness, and know that their voice matters.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. There are several people and groups who have been instrumental in my journey, and I wouldn’t be here without their support.

First and foremost, I’d dedicate my shoutout to my daughter, Leona. She’s the inspiration behind everything I do—her strength, resilience, and unique spirit are what fuel my passion for advocacy and inclusion.

I also want to recognize my family for standing by me through every challenge and triumph. Their love and encouragement have been my foundation.

Finally, I’d like to acknowledge Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. for fostering a sense of sisterhood, service, and empowerment that has shaped me into the leader I am today.

Each of these influences has played a vital role in my story, and I’m forever grateful for their impact on my life and work.
