We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanae Cooper- Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanae, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
The habits that contribute to my effectiveness and success are my go-getter attitude and good work ethics. I am a practical person who pursues whatever dreams or aspirations that I have, I don’t sit and wait for opportunities to be handed out to me but rather chase them. The other attribute that I believe add to my effectiveness and success as an author, educator and thought leader is my strong work ethics. I work tirelessly and relentlessly for what I want, these I believe contribute to my success as an individual.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an educator and author who is passionate about changing lives with my story, skills, and knowledge. What sets me apart is my go-getter attitude that acts as a driving-force for me to achieve whatever I set my mind to accomplish. I get to where I am today because of determination, discipline and dedication. The journey hasn’t been easy, I rose above many adversities through faith in God , and resilience (not giving up even when the adversities were overwhelming). The lessons that I’ve learned along the way are that hard times will not last when you train your mind to think about an escape route and that adversities are conditional, you are not defined by them but can use them as steppingstones to reach your destination. I want the world to know that Shanae Cooper- Robinson is a Generativity Strategist ( someone who passes on knowledge and skills to upcoming generation) whose mandate is to help educators, adversity-stricken-youth to rise above their adversities, to leave generational footprints and become the best possible versions of themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are many fun-filled adventurous places in Jamaica that make it so hard to single out just one nevertheless, “Close your eyes, make a wish because tonight is the night, you’ll get shrimp and fish.” Open them now because, “We going to have some good times, with good friends making good memories.” Since you are in the breadbasket parish, turn up your appetite, fasten your seatbelt and expect to have a jolly good ride. We are heading to the heart of the parish’s capital, Black River. Do expect to get a picturesque glance at the white sandy beach nestled with the azul water. Just across from that view is the historical Waterloo Guest House where you can sip and give a little tip. Let’s go! Let’s go! With so many places to go in this one little area, I hope you don’t get place sick. We have to make this a two-part visit, but we will skip some places today in order to not miss out on our g Swamp Safari trip with our “steam fish and okra bodies.”

On the same stretch of the sea, just across the road , there lies the navigable and one of the longest rivers in Jamaica, the Black River. If you are a lover of wild lives and endangered species, then you will have a great time at Safari. Buckle up your seatbelt once more, let’s go sailing in the Black River in those fancy and comfortable boats for sure. Are you afraid of crocodiles? Oh no! It will get scary for a while, until we end a few miles. Enough of that for now, let’s go get something to eat, just 3 minutes away up the street, let’s dine in fine style, you are in Las Vegas, oh snap! Not the one in America. Grab your menu, see what we have, shrimp, fish, chicken, bammy, rice & peas, cocktail, many more but no crab for sure. The tour wouldn’t be complete without stopping at the Shrimp Country in Middle Quarters Street to indulge with those nice and peppery treats. Not very far from there, you can get cool jellies to make the hotness of the pepper disappear. If you come to St. Elizabeth and don’t do a bamboo tour (through the Holland Bamboo) that trip would be one to ignore.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wish to shoutout or turn the spotlight on the Nonfiction Authors Association (CEO Stephanie Chandler) a very vibrant authors’ community that supports writers throughout every stage of their journey. I am indebted to this top-notch community for all the assistance that they have given me to transition from an invisible author to a sought-after thought leader.
