We had the good fortune of connecting with Alana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew I wanted to be a therapist and I knew from the time I graduated college that I wanted to open a holistic center. My career and life path have had many twists and turns since then, but I have known for a few years that I wanted to move to Miami and open my holistic center here. After moving and settling in for a few months, opening Soul Space was a natural progression of the plan I have been working on for years, and I have been letting the process unfold naturally since then! As far as why I wanted to open a holistic center in the first place, it started as an idea between friends that were all into wellness, yoga and mindfulness, and has evolved as I have gone through my own struggles with mental and physical health. I’ve seen firsthand how many different modalities and treatments are part of an integrated approach, and how difficult it can be to access all of them. Having them all in one place increases accessibility and creates a healing atmosphere where people can feel safe and belong to a community of other people who value wellness!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I meet new clients as a therapist, I hear all kinds of stories about their past therapy experiences – some disappointing, some outright horrifying. I can hear the sigh of relief when I tell them about my approach and how it differs from the traditional therapy approach, and I can see the growth in these clients as we progress through the phases of their healing journey together. This approach has taken years to refine, but it would not be possible without me leaning into my own personal life experience. I have experienced mental health struggles, chronic physical health issues, spiritual awakenings, numerous travel experiences (many of them solo) and have lived in multiple cities as an adult. I also read books and listen to podcasts about spirituality, wellness and self help all the time, which further influence my approach. I am proud of the way I have leaned into my own expertise and intuition to create an approach that resonates so deeply with so many women, and has helped them find healing in a deeper way than before, just like I have in my own life!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have tons of favorite spots, but the most special ones are places that I can experience some peace and quiet and reflect on my life. I love being by the water, which is lucky because Miami is surrounded by water! I also love Upper Buena Vista, because it reminds me of the hippie festivals I used to go to back in the day. I also love me some Pura Vida, as cliche as that is. But mostly, I love being at home in my own apartment, which is my sanctuary! Soon my favorite place to hang out will be the Soul Space Holistic Center 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank every person I have met along my journey who has supported and encouraged my dreams, both providing positive feedback and helping me work through the many dilemmas and roadblocks I have faced. I want to thank both of my parents for always supporting me to follow whatever career path or life path I have wanted. I know my dad is looking down on me with pride and pulling strings behind the scene. And I especially want to thank the universe for guiding me through it all – leaning into my faith has really helped with the journey so far!
