Meet Gizem Cercioglu Schimming | Yoga and Pilates Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gizem Cercioglu Schimming and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gizem, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I used to think work-life balance meant getting everything done in a day. But now, I think of it more as an energy balance. There were times in my career when I was saying yes to everything—clients, trainings, teaching nonstop. And I loved it! But I also learned that to stay passionate and inspired, I have to create time for myself—movement without an agenda, family, even just rest. Living in Florida helped me tune into that slower, more balanced rhythm, and now I try to teach that mindset too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I actually started out as an English teacher—fitness wasn’t my first career. I began working out just for my own health and peace of mind. I was over 35 when I really got curious about the body and movement, and I started learning everything I could. One thing led to another, and I found myself getting certified in Pilates, yoga, TRX… it became a passion that turned into a whole new life.
What makes my journey special is that I didn’t grow up in the fitness world—I chose it later in life. And even though it was scary to start over, I followed what felt right. Now I’ve led retreats all around the world, appeared on the cover of Women’s Health magazine, and I get to train people from all over—online and in person.
Was it easy? Not at all. But I kept going. I worked hard, stayed curious, and always stayed true to my love for helping people feel better in their bodies.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: it’s never too late to change your story. I did—and now I help others do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Welcome with a barefoot beach walk in Lake Worth, followed by a breezy dinner at Benny’s on the Beach—fresh seafood, ocean views, and a golden sunset with a glass of wine.
Day 2 – Mindful Movement
Start with a rejuvenating yoga flow at GiZEN, then head to a cozy local café for artisan coffee and nourishing brunch. Stroll through the artsy downtown and feel the soul of the city.
Day 3 – Wild & Wonderful
Explore the raw beauty of Loxahatchee or Riverbend Park—lush trails, peaceful waters, and wild Florida charm. End the day with farm-to-table dining and candlelight conversation.
Day 4 – Ocean & Oasis
Swim and sun at the tranquil Juno Beach, then unwind with a soothing massage or salt therapy. Dine under fairy lights at a local gem with earthy dishes and deep red wine.
Day 5 – Culture & Charm
Wander the Norton Museum’s curated exhibits, then graze on global flavors at Grandview Market. Wrap the day with wine tasting at an elegant bar tucked in downtown West Palm.
Day 6 – Coastal Chic
Bike along the palm-lined streets of Palm Beach Island or explore boho Delray. Boutique hop, sip iced matcha, and enjoy dinner al fresco beneath twinkling lights.
Day 7 – Soulful Send-Off
Slow morning, light movement, and journaling. Then a beachside sunset picnic—blanket, breeze, laughter, and gratitude for memories made.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Meghan Currie was the first yoga person I met and loved online. Then I followed her practice and went to her workshops. Her style and vibe- everything about her is inspiring.
