Meet Alicia McIntosh

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia McIntosh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
EmpowerHER is a movement rooted in transformation and personal development, and being intentional about how we care for ourselves. As a Black woman who’s been in the wellness space professionally since 2015, I created this from both lived experience and listening deeply to what was missing, especially for Black and Brown women (BIPOC). We were often left out of conversations around rest, emotional well-being, and movement as essential forms of healthcare. That became even clearer through my one-on-one work with so many beautiful, diverse women as a coach. I saw firsthand the need for spaces where we feel seen, valued, and poured into. So, I created what I didn’t always see.
Our events center around movement, stillness, and community because I believe healthcare isn’t one-size-fits-all. Whether it’s through workshops, silent sessions, or movement practices, we’re reminding women that their health matters in every form. When one woman is well, she pours into everything around her — her family, her work, her friendships. That’s how we begin to shift not only the wellness of women who look like us, but also create space for all women, opening doors to self-care and holistic wellness for everyone. It’s about honoring our health.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has been a journey of personal growth, blending my work in healthcare as a movement coach with my passion for holistic wellness. To me, holistic wellness means caring for the whole person — mind, body, emotions, and spirit. It’s not just about physical health; it’s about mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual alignment — all of which movement supports. I’ve been dedicated to creating spaces where women can experience well-being and growth on every level. What sets me apart is my belief that emotional well-being and movement are at the core of true healthcare. When we honor all these aspects, real wellness unfolds, and that’s what I’m all about!
I’m most proud of creating environments where women feel supported and empowered to prioritize their health. Whether it’s through educational workshops, meditative sessions, or movement practices, EmpowerHER is about helping women reconnect with their bodies, minds, and spirits in ways that are authentic and meaningful to them. It’s not just about what we do, but how people feel when they leave — that’s the real energy we’re creating!
Getting here has had its ebbs and flows. I’ve faced burnout, doubt, and challenges, but each one has taught me to trust my intuition, honor my values, stay aligned with my purpose, and lean in on faith. What I’ve discovered is that the true impact we have on others is creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and uplifted. It all starts with a genuine heart — you have to truly care.
EmpowerHER is more than a brand; it’s a movement that redefines healthcare. My story is about embracing growth and owning your voice. When we rise, we lift others with us, creating a ripple effect.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1:
Morning: We’re starting the day strong with some Pilates or hitting the gym to get our bodies moving. I’ll be doing our workout plan — we’ve got to start the day right!
Brunch: Off to Rosie’s or Red Rooster for some good food and even better vibes. Definitely grabbing a bottle of wine (red or white) and talking up a storm. After that, we’re heading back home for a movie night — just to keep the convo going.
Day 2:
Morning: We’re definitely going to a hot yoga class at Mimi Yoga or YOBK to sweat it out, then we’ll cook breakfast together. Love a home-cooked meal to fuel us up a bit.
Afternoon: We’re absolutely going to Mangrove for some whole fish!
Evening: We’re finishing the day with sushi at Uchi for dinner, then heading to The Improv Miami for a comedy show. We’re going to be laughing all night!
Day 3:
Morning: We’re starting off the day with some quality family time at my mom’s. Definitely eating some home-cooked food.
Afternoon: A run? Maybe, if we’re feeling it. If not, we’ll head over to Love Language Presents for that grown, sexy vibe. By the end of the day, we’ll be tired, but as long as we’ve laughed, worked out, eaten well, and had quality time, we’re good to go. Depending on the vibe of the trip, we may find some hidden gems!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I truly believe none of us rise alone, and I have so many people to thank for being part of my journey.
First, I have to give flowers to the incredible women I’ve worked with over the years — especially the Black and Brown women who’ve trusted me to guide their wellness journey. Their stories, strength, and vulnerability have deeply shaped EmpowerHER. Every session, every conversation reminded me why this work matters — truly a GIFT.
I also want to shout out my friends — they’ve not only supported me personally, but their own inner work and personal development have inspired me deeply. Walking alongside people who are committed to growth is such a blessing. Their encouragement, honesty, genuine love, and care have helped shape me in ways I’ll always be grateful for.
And my mother, who I deeply respect, gave us all she had, even when it meant having less for herself. Her love, and determination laid the foundation for who I am today. (I love you, Mommy! lol)
Of course, my family — especially the women in my lineage, like my grandmother, aunt, and sister, to name a few — taught me resilience, compassion, and what it means to show up with heart. And to my fellow wellness practitioners who’ve poured into me with guidance and perspective, the work is real. Showing up day after day with passion and purpose is no small thing.
I also have to acknowledge the role of faith and intuition. God has always been my guide — even in the quiet, uncertain moments. Learning to listen to that inner voice and to trust divine timing has been a powerful part of this path — and still is.
A very special shoutout goes to Imara Grant, my partner and now Marketing Strategist of EmpowerHER. Imara has brought not only strategy and vision to the brand but also soul alignment. She sees the mission deeply and is helping to shape the way we show up. Her creativity, dedication, and passion have been game-changing — I couldn’t ask for a better person to build this community with. She’s been a light in this next chapter, and I’m beyond grateful for her.
And to every woman who has contributed in any way with her gifts and offerings, thank you. Because of you, the seed that was planted had the opportunity to grow… and keeps growing. EmpowerHER is what it is because of all of you.
EmpowerHER is truly a reflection of a collective — those who came before me, those walking beside me, and those who continue to inspire what’s possible and what’s next!
