Meet Travis Knight | Film Director & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Travis, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
People will forget what you said. They’ll forget what you did. But they’ll always remember the way you made them feel.

This reminds me to be aware that no matter how we get the job done, how I treat others is more important than how I complete the task at hand, and how others feel is more important in the long run than being on time or right.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a musician since I was in middle school. I’ve been making films and videos for just as long. I never knew that filmmaking would be my profession all these decades later, or that film would be the vehicle for me to continue to write, record, and perform my music across the country and world. Persistence and patience and dedication are the tools and lessons that continue to drive me towards my artistic goals, and gratitude, humility, and vulnerability are the emotions that push me to keep moving forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love sea food, the beach, live music, and art. Depending on who is playing, what’s being shown, and how the weather is, I’d want to eat some Caribbean food, hop in the water, see a show, and check out some art.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Mentors I’d like to thank include Mark Emery, Emmy award winning filmmaker and composer for National Geographic, with whom I had the honor of creating and shooting while I was still in high school in central Florida, and Jeremy Robinson, world class First Assistant Director, under whose wing I learned how to run a set, treat everyone with respect, keep things light while I maintain a professional work environment, and at whose encouragement I became a director myself.
