We had the good fortune of connecting with Belen Duran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Belen, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m originally from “Camargo, Cuna de Artistas” a beautiful town in Chihuahua, Mexico, that deeply shaped who I am. I was raised in a humble, hardworking family, and watching my parents struggle and work really hard every day became my greatest motivation. At 19, I came to the United States filled with big dreams: to go to college, build a better life, and one day bring my mom and brother here too, something I’m incredibly proud to say I’ve achieved.

That journey wasn’t easy. I arrived not speaking a word of English, but I had a fire in me, an unstoppable drive fueled by everything I lacked growing up and the desire to prove that it’s possible to overcome. I wanted to show people like me, who didn’t have much access or exposure, that your dreams are still valid.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Architecture from UWM in Wisconsin, and later, my Master’s in Journalism from the University of Miami. Every obstacle and every experience along the way has shaped the woman I am today. I truly believe that every happens for a reason and nothing in life is a coincidence, and I wouldn’t change a thing, my roots, my resilience, and my journey have led me exactly where I’m meant to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey has been anything but linear. As a broadcast journalist, actress, and influencer, I had to carve out a path that didn’t always feel open to me. One of the biggest turning points in my life was moving to this country, and later, to Miami, a city that changed everything. I didn’t start as early as others, and for a long time, I felt behind. Doors were closed. Opportunities felt scarce. And on top of it all, personal challenges tested me deeply. But I kept going.

It wasn’t easy at all. There were many moments of doubt times I questioned my path, my timing, even my worth. But I’ve learned that the key is believing in yourself, even when no one else does. That belief became my anchor. I chose to see every setback as a setup. I reminded myself that everything happens for a reason and that sometimes, the waiting season is where the real transformation happens.

The most powerful lesson I’ve learned is that it’s never too late to pursue what sets your soul on fire. Time doesn’t define you, your spirit does. Trust the timing of your life, and don’t let closed doors convince you that you aren’t worthy. Keep going. Keep believing. You never know what’s around the corner if you don’t give up. I had to pave the path for myself and it has not been easy but now I want to pave the path for others.

I want the world to know that my story is one of resilience. It’s about showing up, even when it’s hard but also trusting the process and having faith that God has a plan for you. I’m writing a book to help others walk through their own valleys,to find hope in the wait, strength in the struggle, and belief in themselves no matter what they’ve faced and having unwavering faith that the future is bright. If I can do it, so can you. And at the end of the day is about doing what you truly love and having a purpose in life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting and I’ve been lucky to share days like this with people I love, my perfect day would start with an early morning run to Key Biscayne Beach to catch the sunrise. After the run, we’d cool off with a dip in the ocean, then take a few moments to meditate and give thanks for the day. And of course I would bring my dog Leon my soul dog whom I love with all my heart! Having my best friend or someone I love and Leon at the beach together would be already the most perfect experience right there!

We’d grab some fresh sushi and a green juice, then spend the rest of the day tanning and relaxing by the beach, soaking in the sun until sunset. As the sky turns golden, we’d snap some photos to capture the moment before heading home to get ready for the evening.

Dinner would be at a beautiful restaurant, where we’d order truffle fries and mezcal margaritas with blue cheese olives, of course laughing, talking, and savoring every bit of the day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All glory to God, I truly believe He’s been by my side through it all. In the moments when I couldn’t keep going, He carried me. It’s my faith in Him, and the trust that He has always had a plan for me, that has brought me to where I am today. I believe that with Him, I can do all things.

My brother whom I love with all my heart, he is not only my number one fan but also my motivation. Reading The Pivot Year by Brianna Wiest has been a powerful source of hope and resilience for me on this journey. I’m also incredibly grateful for the unconditional love and support of my family and friends. I feel truly blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people.
