Meet Endry Rovaz | Film Director & CEO of Astral Films

We had the good fortune of connecting with Endry Rovaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Endry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When you start out in any professional field —especially in my case, in the world of arts and creativity— you’re often limited by the vision of the leader of the organization you work for or belong to. And while it’s a privilege to collaborate with renowned brands and artists, those privileges often come with restrictions, particularly when the final word isn’t yours.
Throughout my extensive career as a filmmaker, during which I’ve worked across various countries in Latin America and the United States, I’ve gathered valuable insights: how to collaborate with different teams, when to give a little more of yourself, and most importantly, when to rein in your boldest ideas. All of this led me to recognize a deep need —greater creative freedom. Not just in the artistic and cinematic process, but also in making decisions about publishing and distribution. As a creator and a leader, I felt the urge to raise my own voice. That’s how Astral Films was born, in the city of Miami.
This venture, which became an expression of my creative and entrepreneurial freedom, opened doors to awards, brand collaborations, filmmaking tours across the U.S., and rapid expansion that would have been impossible without taking the leap into entrepreneurship. It’s important to understand that when you decide to build your own business, you don’t have the safety net that comes with working for an established company —and sometimes the beginning is tough. But it’s also the only way to carve out your own path, no matter your field. Don’t be afraid of success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Fortunately, I belong to this new digital era, where information is just a click away in the vast world of the internet. In the place where I grew up, there were no art schools, so teaching myself was the only possible way to access the technical knowledge I needed to pursue filmmaking.
During that journey, I held many jobs: I worked as a graphic designer, photography assistant, and editor at a TV channel… until, by combining the knowledge I had acquired with real experience, I began to shift the balance toward the area that truly fascinated me—video production and cinematography. Once I started, I didn’t stop. Every new project brought countless hours of study, preparation, and —most importantly for any professional— trial and error. There comes a point where your results speak louder than any university degree. Brands, artists, and companies are interested in creating successful campaigns that help them grow and generate revenue. It doesn’t matter whether those campaigns were created by an honors graduate or an unknown creative working from a bedroom with a laptop. Some of the great filmmakers who inspired my career —like Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan— also learned through experience rather than attending film school.
Not all of us have the same opportunities to study, but thanks to the internet and the digital age we live in, the most powerful tool you can have is the desire to grow. Learn to adapt to the time you live in, understand the needs of your local market, and —above all— dare to believe that the impossible can become reality. Believe that your reality can change. Behind every success story, there is always a strong dose of positive thinking. Because true wealth and human value are not measured by money.
The first lesson I want to share with you is this: if the lion could talk to the gazelle, he would tell her that he runs faster, that she should give up to make it easier for him to catch her. But the truth is, the gazelle runs faster, she’s more agile, and she doesn’t need to hunt to survive. Life works the same way: believing in yourself is essential. Experienced entrepreneurs may know how to limit you, how to make you doubt your abilities so that you remain dependent on them and never dare to chase your dreams. Don’t let them devour your creative spirit.
As film directors, we carry a great responsibility: to express what’s happening around us. The filmmaker who chooses to entertain likely does so because they grew up in sadness and feel a duty to ease it. The filmmaker who educates does it because they’ve known the absence of knowledge and feel responsible for sharing it. I am no different. Through my work, I’ve tried to express a strong critique of the issues that shaped me —poverty, economic and moral hardship— while also highlighting the virtues and richness of the culture I was born into.
As I’ve traveled to new places and countries, I’ve discovered other urgent needs: awakening human consciousness, defending family values, and protecting animals, who are often unjustly exploited by us. I believe there are many things in this world that can —and must— be improved. In the end, my responsibility as a filmmaker isn’t just to tell the stories I want to tell, but to tell the ones I must. That is my mission.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many people have influenced my journey and contributed something valuable to the person I am today. But no one has been a more powerful inspiration than my family. My father, my mother, and my siblings have been my foundation—my allies in every battle. Together, we faced obstacles, overcame hardships, and, most importantly, nurtured a deep desire to grow and succeed. They taught me that it doesn’t matter where you come from, but where you choose to go. That conviction has been my driving force ever since.
