We had the good fortune of connecting with John Cornicello and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, why did you pursue a creative career?
Basically, it is all I know. I cannot not take photographs. I started out thinking I was going into the music business, but had photography as a hobby. But in college I recognized that I was not a great musician, but I was pretty good at the photography thing. I also had a great photo professor in college who encouraged me in his own way. He was very critical, yet still supportive. Right out of college I started working in a large studio operation in NYC. And have had my hand in photography ever since. I did have a corporate job for 20 years, but it was at Adobe (the Photoshop software folks), so I count that in with my creative career. After I left Adobe I resurrected my photo business for a few years, but with the covid situation I decided it was time to retire from business and just pursue personal projects.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as a still life and product photographer. Over the years that changed to being a portrait person and now I almost exclusively photograph people. I like my ability to make most people feel comfortable in front of the camera. I haven’t had too many terrible challenges, the universe usually provided when needed. Now my challenge Parkinson’s Disease.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Head to the mountains (Mt. Rainier) or to the Pacific Ocean for a start. Local diners for eats. And some time in the studio making portraits.
