We had the good fortune of connecting with Leighton Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leighton, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I don’t believe in work life balance. Balance means equal weight on each. This is nearly impossible and very impractical also. There are times one side will require more attention than the other. You’d be foolish to rigidly focus on balance during such times. It’s more about harmony than balance. Harmony implies the right amount of each. That is where our aim should be. When writing my latest book, Your Happiness Equation, I carved out time to get the project done but was conscious not neglect other areas of my life. There were also times we had deadlines related to the book. I shifted things around and focused more on the book in these moments. It took four years to complete. The response has been overwhelming and it became an Amazon Bestseller in multiple categories. Thankfully, I didn’t sacrifice my personal life or other professional responsibilities to accomplish this.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In Your Happiness Equation, I seek to inspire, equip, and bring awareness to the importance of happiness in our lives. We have more agency over this than most believe. In it I reveal my greatest insights and most heartbreaking failures. I hope readers will build on the good I’ve done and discovered. I hope they will avoid the pitfalls that have sometimes requested my joy and peace. The premise is that after answering 7 short questions about your life, you will get a happiness score on a 0-to-100-point scale. That can be the beginning of a very deep and introspective journey. I guide readers along this path. The number of people that have emerged stronger, more resilient, and happier, is too numerous to count.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In no particular order, we would eat at Apocalypse BBQ, have drinks at Broken Shaker, dance at Club Space, picnic at Bayfront, have lunch at Chef Tally’s world famous jerk chicken spot, watch a Marlins game, sample wine at Schnebly’s, buy a classic at Old Florida Bookstore, get a poolside cabana at the Hardrock Guitar Hotel, enjoy dinner at Spice N Vybe, shoot zombies at Nexus, and have a home cooked dinner at my mom’s house but my wife would make the mac ‘n cheese.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Kristina has been a huge supporter of Your Happiness Equation. I run most ideas by her. She has very strategic insights. My brother David has also played a critical role. He designed the book cover and has overseen much of the content creation and branding. Arty Palermo, my CPA and friend. He threw me the most EPIC book launch party. Forever grateful… His business partner, Karen Ross, added thoughtful detail to that evening. My Mattix Jiu Jitsu family, BNI family, Thrive family, and more…
