Meet ROMINA Orozco-Encio | Owner – Floral Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with ROMINA Orozco-Encio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ROMINA, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Abbott Florist has been in my family since 1990, so for me, it wasn’t just about starting a business — it was about continuing a legacy and evolving it for today’s world. I grew up surrounded by flowers, creativity, and a strong work ethic. Taking over the business was a way to honor my parents’ hard work while putting my own vision into it — building community relationships, creating designs that tell a story, and showing that flowers can be part of everyday life, not just special occasions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Floral design is my art — every arrangement tells a story and is crafted to create a lasting emotional connection. What sets me apart is blending luxury design with a personal touch, making each piece unique to the client.
Continuing my family’s business, Abbott Florist, since 1990 has been my proudest achievement. It hasn’t been easy — the industry is competitive and ever-changing — but I’ve learned to adapt, embrace creativity, and build strong relationships.
At Abbott Florist, we don’t just sell flowers; we create experiences that celebrate life’s most important moments with beauty, care, and heart.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit Miami Beach for a week, I’d start with a slow morning at a local café by the beach, then a walk along Ocean Drive to soak in the Art Deco charm. We’d spend an afternoon at the Perez Art Museum, followed by sunset drinks at a rooftop bar with ocean views.
We’d eat our way through the week — Cuban sandwiches in Little Havana, fresh seafood on the bay, and one special night at a fine dining spot in South Beach. I’d take them to the Normandy Fountain Plaza for live music and community events, and maybe sneak in a salsa night at a local lounge.
One day would be for nature — a kayak trip through Oleta River State Park or a boat ride to the sandbar. Another would be for pure fun — Wynwood Walls, street art tours, and dinner at one of the colorful, bustling food halls. And of course, we’d end at the beach, toes in the sand, watching the sunrise before they head home. Miami is a mix of cultures, flavors, and energy — and that’s the experience I’d want them to take with them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shoutout goes to my parents, who built Abbott Florist from the ground up in 1990 and showed me what true dedication looks like. They taught me that a business isn’t just about transactions — it’s about relationships, trust, and caring for your community.
I also want to thank my husband, Fernando, and my sons, who have supported me through every early morning setup, late-night wedding tear-down, and crazy event week. Their patience and encouragement keep me going.
And finally, a huge thank you to the Miami Beach community and the Normandy Fountain Business Association. The love, collaboration, and trust I’ve experienced here inspire me to give back and to keep making Abbott Florist a place where beauty, connection, and community come together.
