We had the good fortune of connecting with Ysdaly Thielen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ysdaly, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At BG Integrative Studio, we support breast cancer survivors and patients who have undergone surgery in reclaiming their confidence and sense of self. As a cancer survivor myself, I understand the emotional and physical challenges that come with visible reminders of trauma, and I use my skills to help clients feel whole and proud of their journeys.

Through specialized services such as 3D areola and nipple tattoos, scar and vitiligo camouflage, scalp and eyebrow micropigmentation, gender reaffirmation, and more, we transform not just appearances but lives. By partnering with organizations such as the American Cancer Society; Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) through the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program; and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center / University of Miami, where I serve as Co-Leader on the Community Advisory Committee, we are able to extend our reach, provide education, and bring hope to the community. My goal is simple: to ensure no one faces their recovery alone and to help every client embrace their story with confidence and dignity.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
BG Integrative Studio is more than just a medical tattoo studio. It’s a place of healing, empowerment, and transformation. What sets us apart is our focus on medical and cosmetic tattooing for people who have experienced trauma, surgery, or medical conditions that leave visible reminders on their bodies. From 3D areola and nipple tattoos for breast cancer survivors to scar and vitiligo camouflage, scalp micropigmentation, gender reaffirmation, and cosmetic tattooing, our work is deeply personal and designed to restore confidence and dignity.

I’m most proud of the opportunity to help clients reclaim their sense of self and see themselves in a new, positive light. Being a cancer survivor myself inspired me to dedicate my skills to others, turning my own experience into purpose.

Building BG Integrative Studio has not always been easy. Some of the biggest challenges included confronting the stigma and lack of awareness around medical tattoos, educating clients and the public on how our services can transform lives, and staying at the forefront of techniques that require precision, creativity, and sensitivity. Each obstacle has taught me the value of patience, innovation, and empathy, and has strengthened me alongside a team that shares the same passion for helping others feel whole and confident in their own skin.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned are the power of empathy, the importance of precision and professionalism in every procedure, and the understanding required to guide each client through their unique journey.

What I want the world to know is that BG Integrative Studio is about more than tattoos it’s about transformation, empowerment, and helping people feel confident in their own skin. Our mission is to ensure that no one faces their recovery or journey alone and to provide art that heals both the body and the spirit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting South Florida for a week, I’d want to show them everything that makes this area vibrant, beautiful, and fun.

We’d start in Coral Gables, exploring its charming streets, historic architecture, and tropical gardens. I’d take them for coffee and pastries at a local café, and then we’d enjoy a stroll through lush greenery. In the evening, we’d have dinner featuring local and international flavors.

Next, we’d head to Miami Beach, enjoying the sun and sand during the day, followed by a walk along the beach at sunset to take in the city skyline. Afterwards, we’d explore the area to experience the lively nightlife and iconic Art Deco atmosphere.

I’d make sure we spent a day in Wynwood, wandering through colorful murals, visiting local galleries, and trying snacks or food from nearby eateries and food trucks while exploring the neighborhood.

For a calmer day, we’d explore Key Biscayne, cycling along trails, enjoying the beach, and having a picnic outdoors. Another day could be spent in Coconut Grove, wandering its streets, visiting shops and cafés, and people-watching at the marina.

Of course, no trip would be complete without a taste of local culture: live music in intimate venues, Cuban coffee and pastries in Little Havana, and attending a show or art event if possible.

Ultimately, I’d want my friend to leave with a mix of South Florida’s natural beauty, incredible food, colorful art, and unforgettable energy, experiencing both the relaxation and excitement that make this region so special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all the breast cancer survivors and patients who have undergone surgery they’ve taught me so much about resilience, strength, and courage. I’m also deeply grateful to the organizations I collaborate with, such as the American Cancer Society, the University of Miami, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, for their ongoing support and for allowing me to bring hope and confidence to the community. Lastly, I want to thank my family, friends, and colleagues, who have always encouraged me to pursue my purpose and use my art to help others.
